Does my maxima look healthy ?

jacko

Coral Curator
The maxima is about 2 inches
it eats and excretes
it seems to have a small amount of fresh growth since entering my tank (3 weeks ago).

But I am concerned that it does not open enough, what do you think? healthy?

How much light are you giving it? If it is on the sand, you might consider moving it up on the rocks. Maximas are light loving clams with medium. Some say high flow but mine doesn't like it as much as the croceas.

it has great reflexes to shadows.
It is about 4 inches from the water surface, and I have a 250 DE about 7 inches above the water surface, and the clam is offset about 6 inches to the side of the bulb.

Here is a shot from a couple minutes ago
looks a little better here

I would agree. It probably doesn't feel comfy enough to extend its mantle. I'll bet the Xen is the reason. When my mat polyps grew too close to my crocea, it did the same thing. I cut the polyps back and the clam is much happier.
