door alarms needed BADLY

Suggest using an alarm only is not the way to go. An alarm goes off after he gets in. I'm sure you want to keep him from getting in under any
circumstances...need to go with a lock of some kind. If not confident in a lock just screw the thing shut...especially if you're not home...peace of mind.

Glad to hear he was fine. To be honest, as a parent of two small children, that whole scenario described in the first post is a little mind boggling to me, but if alarms or locks is the solution that works for you, I hope everything works out great. Kids definitely love the tanks!

That's not the only thing that has changed. My brother cut some wood to make the area between the tank and the wall flush so my son can't see back there where the wires are.

The magnetic locks look great. A lot of the equipment I work on has magnetic safety switches like the ones mentioned and they do work good. The handheld magnetic that you hideway releases it. I agree the alarm is NOT the way to go. Once the alarm goes off he has the time until you get there to get in trouble. Locking it is the only solution. I don't think a toddler could muster enough strength to pry a cabinet door open nor tip over a tank unless it was a 20 gallon tank on a tiny stand. Most 50+ gallon tanks would take an adult with some purposeful force to tip over.
