Drain Plumbing question

with the use of a regular overflow box; can anyone think of any advantages of having a ball valve on the drain to a basement sump?

im not sure when i would ever use it..if i restrict the flow at all the box could overflow couldn't it?
thx

the only reason I can think of is if you have dual overflows and are able to throttle back the return pump - in that case you could slow the flow and shut down one overflow at a time for cleaning.

Edit; Or if there were 2 overflows and they went to different places, ie one to sump, one to recirc skimmer then sump, or ref then sump - in this case ball valve(s) could be used to adjust flow.

Can't think of anything else?

bad idea

I would think that would be apt to clog more easily may not be a good idea or use an oversized ball valve.

Yea,

I would never want to restrict the drain without something else to compensate when things get clogged. Maybe to direct more flow to one of two overflows, or for maintence, but otherwise never.
