Eel Houdini Prevention

In the process of starting a 90 gal aggressive tank and a zebra moray eel is on the stocking list. I know eels are a flight risk and wanted to know if a clear mesh top was enough or if I need a glass top. I'd prefer the clear mesh top for gas exchange, light penetration, etc. But I don't want to endanger the eel. Does anyone keep an eel? Thoughts?

Absolutely glass top. I had a golden moray eel and he jumped our even with a glass top on their. I had to weigh down my glass tops with stuff to keep him inside. He will push the mesh top right off.

I have a mesh top and it works fine. Just need to weight it down. My issue is my jeweled moray eel keeps going into my overflow. Comes out to eat and swim around then back to the overflow. Tried various home made overflow covers and none have stopped him.

Pesto I had the same problem. I had a piece of acrylic cut to fit the top portion of the overflow box and it worked fine

I have tried plexiglass, plastic and foam all have been beaten by the eel. My eel pushed the cover up and slithered in. Crazy!

Have a HOB overflow on my 29 gallon now and put a piece of 1/4 acrylic inside it to stop my clowns from jumping in it. Sounds like I would need to do the same thing and try to find a way to secure it.

Any other "issues" with eels (zebra moray specifically) other than the need to explore my carpet?
