Emergency - Help needed

Power has been out at house since 3:30 a.m. Necco home, found some dead fish. Some still alive, but no idea how to help. Please let me know if you have ideas on how to save them. Thank you.

You need to get 02 into the tank ASAP. Any air pumps? The fish are dying from lack of oxygen.

If not start taking water and dumping it in and out. Anything you can to move water. ANYTHING!

I have 3 air pumps but it is probably to late..if not come get um.

Heat is not as big of an issue. Bec once told me she had a power outage and fish were floating. As soon as she got oxygen in there they started swimming again...

I just spoke to him. No air pumps but he's going to move the water in & out. There was a car accident around the corner from our house & power still not restored.

Absolutely keep water moving and getting bubbles air into the water.

In the future, buy a $10-$15 battery operated air pump. Best investment.

Ok yes like Kas said tell him to keep water moving or everything WILL eventually die.

$15 air pumps like KAS said will do the same. They come on auto when the power goes out. Best investment you can make. I have an APC now but before I had two pumps. One for the tank and sump.

Could you tell me where I could buy a pump? I can go get that now, but I really don't have an idea of what to look for. We are close to Salem NH.
He's home moving the water. Power was supposed to be back at 3 p.m., but telephone pole is still in middle of the street. Could be a few more hours.

Good luck, I would help if I was closer, maybe if someone nearby could bring air pumps, that would help.

Do you know if there are any fish stores near you, any pet store would have them like petco, but sometimes I have found fish stuff at huge grocery stores like price chopper or maybe building 19 might have stuff.

what about using a straw and blowing bubbles... my mom used to do that to her goldfish when she was a kid(actually it was with a coffee strainer).

There's a few pet stores in Salem NH - Sea World, Petco too. I will go there. Would I need 3? He has a 90 gal. tank. He said he's not as concerned about the sump as he is about the fish. Wants to save the fish that are still alive. 3 out of 9 I think.

I would get at least 2. One for the tank and sump. 3 may not be a bad idea. Mine take D batteries and will run for almost 2 days

It is probably better and cheaper online like wrassefan posted. I had trouble finding the kind that get plugged in and turn on auto in an ac outage at LFS's.

Sorry I'm late on this, hopefully someone else answered. Go to AquaAddicts but call first. I'm not sure of their hours.

OK, just read the thread and you now have power. I have a 75 and have 2 in the tank. You don't really need a 'bubbler'/air pump in the sump. As TomD said, they take 2 'D' batteries each so buy those while your out as well.

Also, I'm relaying this because it's a mistake I made once. Make sure you put the air pumps on the same circuit as your other pumps. I had divided my tanks electrical 'stuff' across two circuits and as luck would have it, the air pumps ended up on a different circuit than the tank pumps. The circuit tripped for some reason and the air pumps didn't come on because as far as they were concerned, there was power. Doesn't apply to your situation today/yesterday but thought I would pass on my mistake.

Blowing bubbles will work. I forget the ratio, but the air you exhale has 1/2 - 2/3 the oxygen of the air you inhale.

Looked it up - 21% in atmosphere, 14% in your alveolae (inner recesses of the lungs), 16% in exhaled air.

16 % Oxygen & 84 % CO2 , I think I would not do it
