Euro Reef skimmer mod help...

I am aware of aquatic eco sys, but I dont need 2 yards of mesh. I think $6.00 shipped is a great deal especially when you compare them to other vendors selling the stuff, to each his own.. Happy Reefing

Excuse me for saying, but don't you own meshmod.com? If not, I apoligize but your homepage link takes me there. I think it would be ethical to divulge that, if that indeed is the case.

Although each is entitled to his/her own opinion, it would be equally nice to divulge that the mesh mod needs to be "redone" on a regular basis. So, that one piece of mesh is enough to do the mod twice/ or two skimmers once. So that's kinda ensuring repeat business, isn't it?

Happy reefing back atcha. :)

how often do they need re-dos? I've run 2 of them with the mesh for over a year and a half, and haven't seen significant erosion of either impeller. I did change out a busted tie wrap on my Octo, but that was it.

I do an inspection whenever I check the impeller for Ca buildup....not nearly often enough, but occasionally. :o

As far as what Linda said....sorry, but IMO, you **should** disclose. NO question.

YMMV.

I have 2 skimmers that have the PF4 mesh and like many others have gone well over a year without a problem. ATI sells their skimmers with the PF4 mesh so I think the enkamat will last quite a while if installed properly. I imagine it also depends on how the mesh is installed and the type of mesh you are using PF4/PF5.

Wow... a year and half? Hmmm... I usually have to redo mine at least every six months. They don't break off, but I find there to be an erosion in skimmer performance. I am using them on my sedra 9000 and two sedra 5000s. What pump are you running them on, Jay. Most of the folks I have talked to need to redo them on a regular basis.

BTW.. Derik told me in a PM he doesn't own the company, he is just helping to promote it.

I would imagine that ATI designed it's impellar to use the mesh. The rest of us are just modifiying an impellar that was designed to be used a different way. I would hope that ATI's mesh impellar would last longer. Otherwise, people would be pretty POd after dropping that much coin. ;)

My Octo NW200 has a Re-badged OceanRunner in it.

My Coral Reef skimmer had a Resun King, but it was too f-in noisy, so NeO and I modded another OR pump for that. They both still skim a LOT of crap out of the tanks......if the performance has tailed off, I can't see it.

By the way... you may want to use a dremel to get those needles/pins off. Our using a utility knife (with or without beer involved) is an accident waiting to happen ;)

Lawyers :) No... truth be told, I was fixing up my mesh, using the utility knife this weekend...... can you guess what happened? ;)

yeah....but funny how fast those clean cuts heal.. it's sore, but much better today.

So how exactly does the gate valve mod work? Does closing the gate create back-pressure on the pump and it therefore lowers the water level in the chamber of the skimmer? The mod is easy enough, and with the pics posted (thanks Jimmy) i will do it tonight. I guess i am just curious how exactly it works...

Closing the valve increases the water column height in the skimmer. Gives you the better control of the skimmate consistencey.

No i get that part, i understand what you were telling me last night... I guess i was just curious how it increases/decreases water height in the chamber. Maybe by closing the gate valve it creates back pressure in the chamber which in turn lowers the level?

I think it decreases the amount of water leaving the skimmer which in turn raises the water level or produces a wetter skimmate.
