Euro Reef Skimmer pump (Sedra 3500) broken?

Hi,

I recently bought a full salt setup (72g bow front with sump/refug plus Euro skimmer & return pump) and it seems that maybe my Euro Reef pump is dead. The pump doesn't seem to be getting any power. If so, can I replace it with any similar pump? or do I need a Sedra 3500? I believe it to be a 350gph needle-wheel.

Thanks,
-bri

Probably can be replaced with any submersible needle wheel pump that can be made to fit the skimmer's intake.

Sedra's need replacing every couple of years. You might be able to mod an Eheim in its place. Eurofreef does.

I live in Allston. The impeller was caked with ca and salt. I had soaked everything in vinegar and then tried to take the whole unite apart. Unfortunately, while doing so it was so stuck in there, I mean *really* in there, that I accidentally broke the ceramic shaft. The current impeller/shaft still turn but the pump makes no humming noise when plugged in, so I think it might be toast. I was going to try and get another shaft and test it out. But it's like $9 plus $9 shipping. Uggh!

So, an eheim will work? Then maybe I'll see what I can get.

Eheim takes major modification to work. You have to manufacture a volute and needle wheel.
