External Durso Overflow Mod...

Anyone use this design to quiet an external overflow?

http://www.rl180reef.com/pages/standpipe/standpipe-ken_stockman.htm

My overflow is supposedly rated to 700gph, but it seems a little cheesy and I guess you get what you pay for. There isn't much room in the outer box for this modification. JUST enough room. This modification requires a 2" coupling which will actually be touching the internal sides of the box if I install this. It's also using a 1" pvc pipe to drain out of the box. Will using this 1" pvc modification hinder my gph rating through my overflow? I'm using 1 1/4 pipe going to my sump.

In a related question, I know I'm kind of babbling here but, if I invested in a better overflow box would a 1 1/4" pvc pipe handle about 600-700gph? Right now, I'm fairly certain it's my overflow giving me the problems and not the pvc width.

Sorry for the stream of consciousness message (I just woke up).

I use it and would recomend putting in a way to easilly remove the pipe right before the holes for cleaning. Here is a drawing of what I did. I also sanded down the upper pipe so it slides out easilly.

Well, it's too snug in my overflow and it just doesn't work. I think I need a larger overflow box. I tried to skimp on the price and this one STINKS!!!!

So, if I get a bigger one, say rated to 800gph, will my 1 1/4 pvc be able to handle that? There's no way this thing handles 700gph as advertised. I'd say more like 400 or 500, tops.
