Family trip to Boston MA

My family and I are planning a Boston-area trip and I’m deciding between late August or early October. We’ll be based near downtown, but we can drive 30 - 60 minutes for a good stop. I keep a mixed reef at home and would love to use part of the trip for stuff that’s still fun for the family aquarium visit, checking out a solid LFS, maybe seeing some local setups if there’s anything open to visitors.

@LoveTheReef is north of Boston in Wilmington and @Reef Exclusive is north of Boston in Tewksbury. Both of them these stores are amazing and the worth checking out

Be sure and check out the Boston Aquarium of course. There is a massive tank there and great things to see. Penguins, Whale skeletons, definitely worth a visit.

Appreciate all the suggestions. I’m leaning toward doing the Freedom Trail at an easy pace and then mixing in the aquarium or a short harbor cruise depending on the weather. I’ll report back after the trip with what worked best for the kids.

Are you coming from Helsinki?

FWIW ... don't forget Cambridge and if you need a break from the city .... Wayside Inn in Sudbury is a good base with easy visits to Concord, Lexington, Great Meadow Wildlife Refuge, Walden, .... lots of low key trails... might even be able to rent kayaks to paddle up to the North Bridge.
