faulty ph monitor?

ok well as you all know I was having trouble with my milwaukee sms115 and so I got all the stuff and tried to calibrate it and now it wont even go up to 7 it says to do the 4 first and then the 7 and before that I put the probe in the clening solution and the cal-test, I dont get it, Is my monitor faulty or is it my probe? if anyone has a milwaukee sms115 on BRS and is willing to do a test with mine to see if it is the monitor or the probe?

Unless it's designed for a 3 point calibration, you need to claibrate with PH 7 and PH 10 for saltwater use, the ph 4 is for FW use. I maybe wrong, but the meters I've used use 4 or 10 but not both. If you use the 4 and 7 on SW it probablly won't work right.

Also wait a while for it to stablilize in each solution, 5 min or more.

I cant do either i cant do 7 and 10 or 4 and 7, the booklet says to do 4 and 7 tried that didnt work and then before that some reefers told me to do 7 and 10 because it is more the high range than the low so tried that and couldn't do that, the screws will not adjust up to or low enough to the right level, and I have let it sit in the solution for 5 minutes and that didn't work either

Hmm, then something is off.

Is it a new or a used set up? I had a probe that got way too old and eventually couldn't be calibrated.

Can you borrow another probe to see if that's the problem? I think that probes are more or less universal but I could be wrong. I have used a pinpoint probe on a milwakee meter before and it worked fine.

Why would you say that? Granted, you don't have to calibrate it,l but my pinpoint PH meter has been reading the same as my PH test kit since I put it in. I agree you should calibrate it every so often and clean the probe, but it is much nicer to look at the monito each night and see when your PH swings.

Check the bulb on the end of the probe.....a crack will do that

Duds for what it's worth my first probe only lasted 5 months before I could not calibrate it. I had the same problem as you where the calibration screws would not bring it into range. Hopefully someone will chime in who has a probe you can try. If not the best I can do is offer mine if your dad wants to drive you out to Marlboro to check the calibration here.

I have the SMS 120 and am not sure if mine is ok, hard to tell now since I am getting different readings with my Salifert test kit. I also had a hard time calibrating mine. Get what you pay for I guess.

ok, thanks for all the replies the bulb is not cracked, I will talk to my dad about coming out to marlboro but Im pretty sure he will say that is way too far to drive

i believe i had the same issue with the pinpoint i used to have..
unable to calibrate with the worn out probe.
if it's new there should be some sort of warranty,,if used you should factor in the cost of it needing a new probe.
