film on surface

Question to anybody, I am cycling my 90 gal. with some live rock. It has been about a week. A film on the surface has appeared. Should i use carbon or let it work it's self out. Also should I have lights on like normal during the cycling or just part of the day. Thanks

i get that film on my fw tanks, ive heard more surface agitation helps
id have the lights on normal so you can get the algae blooms out of the way before you add stuff, plus the algae will feed pods to some extent

Surface skimming will remove the film if your running a sump. More water movement at the surface will help breakup the film if your not running a sump. The film will inhibit oxygen exchange in the tank.
I'd leave the lights off during the cycle. The algae blooms won't be as bad is you wait until the excess nutrients from the die off are out of the system before adding light to the mix.
