First Reef Tank: Seeding Sand and Rock?

Alright, so I'm almost ready to fill up my tank with water and get it cycling. So my question is I've read somewhere that you can seed sand or rock? Instead of having to spend a ton of money on live rock and sand? Could someone explain this process to me and where I can buy the sand or rock? Or what kind for that matter. Thanks in advance.

Some LFS will have good cycled LR for sale.
But the best way id to get a up of sand and some LR directly from a fellow reefer.
Sometimes you'll see LR in the for sale forums.
The only issue is you take the chance of introducing some pest when doing this.

Pretty simple just put a piece of LR(Live Rock) and a cup of sand from an established tank in you newly setup tank. That is all you need to to do to seed it

You can get it from either a generous Local reefer, LFS, Online Vendors sell refugium packages that work well or try adn locate it in the marketplace

As Bob mentioned you do need to watch out for pests and problematic algae
