First thoughts if your tank looked like this..

Update with pics.

They do make submersible UV lights. They are relatively cheap also.

that doesnt look good at all . change out your carbon with some newly rinsed carbon add someting for phosphates ,gfo ect,i mean hit your tank in every posssible way you can .water changes after water changes and dont turn the lights on . matterfact take the light off the tank .really ,and what are yor water parameteres

i'll take the light off and im going to try and do some tests now,
Can/will this algea damage/hurt fish/corals?

You have corals?

if you do, then you cant take the light out. If you dont (and you dont ahve any fish), take the light out, and do a 100% water change and clean your rocks.

Some corals and polyps will make it a few days without a light. But i dont recomend it.

i dont think so no ,but it hurts the eyes lol ..im just kidding im guessing you have a really bad nutrient problem . you really need to hit it in the but all different ways . with water changes and and all . dont over feed and get something to remove p04 and excess feeding , ur skimmer isnt working to good so that dont help . really husbandry and you on top of your tank ith no lights should have it gone in like a week that happend to me when i first got my leds so two little fishies phosband and gfo is what i did

anyone have anyway to run a UV with no sump?
All i have is a HOB filter.
Tank has gotten WAY worse,
Can/Will this damage my corals/fish?

You don't need a sump.
Just a pump that can be regulated soe the water moves slowly through the U.V.
Somebody close to you might even have one you can borrow.
Doesn't hurt to ask.
And a UV will clear this up in a few days.Been there........done that.

And yes,it can kill everything.
Mostly from depletion of oxygen.

im saying just for 2 days that wont kill the corals ...jincase , and im saying to take the light out so air getds in the tank ,point the power headas up to the surface also

Lights off might well just cause the algae bloom to crash and in turn cause that low O2 situation Bob mentioned.

your telling me its an eyesore and a half. i just wana kick the glass in and call it quits.
These were some of my test results.
PH 8.2-8.4
ALK 2.5
Cal 480
Temp 78
SG 1.024
i dont have mag or phoshate tests.
Would it hurt to throw an airstone in my hob filter to help keep some oxygen in the water, also im pointing my powerheads to the surface

It's not really a nutrient issue, it's more like an invasive species but one that isn't particularly good at thriving in this environment. Get a UV going and it should clear up pretty easily. Water chances and such probably won't do much.

That probably wouldn't hurt, but I doubt it's necessary. IICR low O2 is mainly a concern if the bloom crashes fast.

so there is no alternative to fighting this besides a UV?
Anyone near NH have a UV laying around i could use?
i could sweeten the deal with a few frags

skimmer has nothing to do with it. In an outdoor pond the water gets this way when there is to much sunlight UV clears my pond in a day (500 gallons). I would shut off lights for a couple days and try the uv.

Alright well i've had some mixed responses about keeping my light on or off. now im stuck with this knowledge that if i turn the light off the algea will die and deplete the water of oxygen leaving my fish and corals to suffocate...
So my question is.. should i just leave the light on then? im going to try to get a UV this weekend. thats as soon as i'll be able to get my hands on one... hopefully.

I have a bio cube uv for sale. If u wanna pick it up for $35
