fragging a chalice

so like the title says, i am trying to find out how to frag my chalice. the thing is huge and hanging down the sides and almost touching the sand. can anyone tell me how to frag this guy? do you have to have an eye where you frag? i am worried that if it touches the sand it will kill it. love this piece the most and would hate to lose it. any suggestions would be great . thanks

Bone cutters work, sharp new razor works just hit the other side with some thing hard. I'm a assuming you will take it out to do this. I always have an eye in a frag so it can eat.

Might be a dumb question but why would the chalice die if it touches the sand? I am new to the exclusive world of chalice. Picked up a few from a friend that's breaking down his tank. He told me to keep them on the sand bed. They don't look like they are unhappy.

No issues keeping them on the sand unless they get buried.

I have always used a dremel with a cut off wheel to frag chalices with great success.

because they have a hard plate, won't the plate just push into the sand, thus killing that edge? i would rather not frag it and leave it. this the biggest chalice i have seen. what if i put it up on a rock? will it just keep growing?

Chalices won't just keep growing straight out if there is something in their way, it will just grow out over the sand, not continue straight into the sand. Same on the rocks, it will change it's growth pattern and go over the rock.
