fragging?

i have button polyps on a piece of LR how do I frag them

Ive done it 2 ways.

#1 - I just sliced em off with a razor and superglued em to a plug. I was told that wasnt a good way to go, that they could die. They didnt, but were stressed out for a bit

#2 - Break off some of the rock they are on. Hammer and chisel style.

I slice them off the rock alll the time and they are normally opened within the hour the key is too try to scalpel UNDER the rock so you are not actually cutting the mat but a thin layer of rock

won't the rock up to small pieces or will i have to chisel just under each polyp

do you use razor or small chisel should i make water in bucket to do this

Do you want to cut up your rock or just take a few polyps off? If you want big frags I'd take a hammer and screwdriver...or chissel if you have it. I just use a screwdriver if I want to break chunks off. I take the rock outside and give it a few taps on the cement. no water needed

If you want to cut a small frag off use a razor blade, take the rock out of water and cut what you want off. I usually pull alittle tank water out to swish the cut part around in for a few seconds just to get any slime and debris off, the toss it back in the tank. Real simple.... I've even cut polyps in half before and they grow back. As long as you do clean cuts on healthy colonies they are virtually bulletproof.
