Glass canopy?

I'm setting up a 30g I want to put a glass canopy on the tank but have seen many with no tops or covered with something pourous (egg crate, mesh). any ideas?

If you use a glass canopy (I did) I suggest you make sure that at least part of the top is uncovered so that you get some air exchange from the top of the tank. You would get some from the sump, but if a pump should quit, you don't want your livestock in a sealed tank with hardly any airspace.

Glass tops don't work very well on a reef tank. They build up salt deposits pretty quickly which block a lot of light from entering the tank. They also limit the oxygen exchange at the surface of the water.

If glass isn't good then what are my options besides egg crate IMO it looks bad and this tank is in my living room

I know some people that use a mesh screen. I have a full canopy with a mesh back.

I drilled my canopy and added fans its acrylic and I used a bathroom fan on both sides. You may want something smaller than what I used, IE Computer fans.
