gonio-poor survival rate.

I tried a few gonis years ago...I actually purchased a couple from Justin Credible when he worked at fin and feather. Neither made it more than a couple of months. They would just decided to close up one day and not take food. About 2 years ago I bought an ORA goni from CRA and its been great! Super healthy and I never feed the thing anything other than what the fish get. The ORA red gonis get a BIG thumbs up from this guy! Not cheap but extremely durable and healthy which is what you pay for in this hobby.

Figured I would post a picture of some of them

a few of the red ones

I suppose yours was a green flower pot, very pretty , relatively inexpensive

btw I am pretty/very sure they wont eat brine and mysis................did the lfs tell u that?

Small update ... After close to two weeks of daily feeding of oyster feast and phytofeast, the pigmentation has considerably improved. The purple goni that I have has darkened a few shades. The polyp extension has also increased. I can't wait to see the results after six months.

The goniopower food and JS thing feeding tool showed up yesterday. So of course I had to try both. I killed all flow in the tank a created a cloud of food around the gonis. Twenty minute later most of the food was gone. The little mouths were sucking the particles like crazy. The los in the tank seemed to enjoy it also.

Frank, I still cant find an ingredients list other than one that says it is a blend of enriched zooplankton.

thanks what is in it, I guess I am skeptical wrt prepackaged stuff like that

was this what Justin fed the gonis in his articles?[/QUOTE http. ://reefbuilders.com/2011/09/10/justin-credabels-goniopower-coming-fishies-feed-flowerpot-corals/ A.
lso found this. In the article Justin states that he has been using the blend as goniopower for the last five years.

where did you find the tool and food? local or net? Id be interested in one for my acans.

Steve, I found it on the net. I think I saw the tool at ri aquarium, not positive though. Both are two little fishies products.
The name of the tool is Julian Sprungs thing.

thanks
were each of the tentacles eating independently (which I am guessing they were ) but want to make sure

sorry I didnt follow what u meant by tool and do u have any pics?

fwiw
Goniopower is a blend of dried Zooplankton developed by Goniopora expert, Justin Credabel for feeding Goniopora, Alveopora, and other corals. It is a powder-based food made up of all the nutrients that a growing Goniopora needs. Its components are in a size range that makes it an ideal food for marine invertebrates such as soft and stony corals, seafans, anemones, zoanthids, clams, scallops, featherduster worms, and other filter feeders.. Rich in vitamins, trace elements, amino acids, and lipids.

Frank, each tentacle seems to suck the particles down. I kill the flow for about twenty minutes . It almost appears that there is a mucus of some kind that grabs the particles then it is pulled into its mouth. It reminds me of how small fungia eat by way of a mucus web. I noticed it when I fed ova to a plate. I watched the eggs slowly get pulled into the mouth... Wicked cool..

Update.. I have finished the 30g container of goniopower. I used one teaspoon worth each feeding. Some days I spot fed, some days I just let it go in the flow. I seemed to get a better feeding response by letting it go in the flow. It appears that pigmentation in all my corals have improved or its just in my head.... Either way I plan on getting more goniopower soon..:.
