This article has great information on how GFO affects the chemistry of our tank water. The reduction in essential metals/minerals may be of interest to all those minimal water change folks.

My take-away was that if you're one of the "no or low" water change guys, GFO is probably a bad idea as it will slowly sap away your essential metals/minerals. However, if you perform large water changes regularly, it's probably a non issue. Then again...if you perform large water changes, why do you need GFO?

Thoughts?

The article only confirmed one already known fact, GFO effectively remove phosphate and silicate, as it should.

From a absolute value stand point, a large percentage of several trace elements were removed by GFO. There is one critical information missing is: What is the concentration of these elements impact coral and fish's health.
