Great meeting today.

I would like to say this is one of the better meetings that I have attended. Speakers were interesting & informative. It was great for newer members as due to the increased space, we were able to locate people more easily.
Bit disappointed in Beacon. Partly my fault, cuz I didn't order in advance, but they did say they were bringing extra ( I like to see what I am buying). They did have some great stuff though.
You can never plan correctly with food and a big crowd (as many of us have learned). And there are always those individuals that need to be reminded that their annual dues does not mean "all you can eat" and we should be considerate of others.
Ther is never enough time when there are good speakers as we had yesterday.

Bottom line, thank you to all involved in pulling off yesterdays meeting. A+ for effort.

Great meeting!! As mentioned before, sandwiches better than the pizza, the kids went back for seconds, nice venue. Shame about the screen but thats life. Beacon Aquariums setup was excellent, cleaner shrimp and crabs are happy in their new home.
Really enjoyed the presenters. We got 3 small frags of the leather that Anthony Calfo cut. Tried first time with super-glue with great success and this morning all 3 segments had polyps extended. I think these were from Moe's original, thanks.
Raffle was great.
A hand has to go out to all the people who put in such hard work to make this meeting a success, greatly appreciated.

Can't you still use paypal to accept credit card payments without needing the purchaser to sign up for paypal?

hehe...paypal was better when it wasn't owned by ebay...but if you have the right account type I find it very easy.

>When the BOD starts getting paid a salary I'll be willing to criticise them or their work, as volunteers all I can say is great work (not that I would criticise anyway). <

Sorry I couldn't help out on this meeting, Sunday doesn't work for me with young children. But be forewarned, meetings such as the one just held take a lot of planning and preparation. There are several BRS BOD member stepping down next year. If you want to continue to see events such as the one just put on I suggest you consider running for a BOD, or officer position in the election to be held Dec. 10th. Or, at minimum remind the officers/BOD that you are willing to help out running errands, etc. before meetings.

I was resposible for the food snafew. I've been at meetings where there wasn't enough pizza...and I've been one of those starving, drooling people with no pizza! So my goal was to make sure that everyone got AT LEAST ONE sandwich. As it turns out, we had more than enough because D'Angelos was very generous in their portions. I aplogize to those who went through the line first - I had forgotten the cookies in my car because I was so preoccupied with ALL THOSE SANDWICHES! Such is life. Thanks for all the kind words for those who had a good time and enjoyed the food. Personally, I think we should just have coffee and cookies at every meeting. That takes a huge worry off the planners.

I've lived long enough (meaning old) to know that there's always a chance there will be food left. So I just grabbed my 1/2 sub and enjoyed it and later went back and was told I could grab another 1/2. Not a big deal. I was more worried about Yaktop with the scissors close to my wrist :D

Greg would you let us know which positions will be open so people can think about if they're interested or not?

Meeting was great, best meeting I've been to in FL or here hands down. The setup outside was great!

My only complaint was when I was grabbing my food I herd someone say "oh I forgot the cookies in my car" so I figured I'd go back later and grab a cookie....NOOOO...I went back after I finished my sandwich, after seeing MANY people walking around with 4-6 cookies and they were all gone!!!!!(but considering I did get a sandwich & drink its not that big a deal)

A sugestion for the line going in...put the new membership signup somewhere else, that will keep both lines running more smoothly. I dont mind helping if its needed :)

At the moment, there are three members of the current BOD that are not planning to run this year. Nominations are open for all positions. They are President, Vice President of Public Relations, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary and the BOD positions. There will be a seperate post on the election. Any paid up member is welcome to run for office.

Absolutely great meeting! Thanks to everyone involved for a job well done! I just wish it somehow could have been longer, but I always do.:)

You know, I have to take my hat off (BRS hat of course) to MOE and JOE for staying cool under fire at the beginning of this thread.

Just a couple short weeks ago this was to be the Frank Marinni meeting. Smaller venue, less food....etc. Then we heard that Anthony would be close by on the same day Frank was scheduled to speak for us. These guys made calls, sent emails and got Anthony to jump on board. Changed the venue to a much larger one. Basically everything had to be changed and quick!

Somewhere in there Joe was able to get some sample shirts and hats made up. Printed out the order forms and event fliers. In case you didn't notice, there weren't to many BOD members that actually got to see either of the presentations.

Sorry I didn't have the shirt table organized quickly enough and I will most certainly loose sleep over forgetting the soda sign. But I thought D'Angelos was a nice touch... and I did get a cookie!

BTW Chuck...next meeting, I'm charging you $2 for the free soda:p

Thanks for all the nice comment's :) for our first time doing something like that it was a great experience , my dad had a blast too ! thanks again everyone who ordered from us and picked up! I couldn't thank everyone enough especially since my dad goes for his hip surgery the first week of Dec. this definetly helped take care of bills since he'll be out for a few weeks , thanks Again;)
p.s. if there's a video of the speaker's get me on a list to see it , oh and I can't wait for the hoody and beenie we ordered to come in :)

Great meeting!

I too, agree with everyone, that this was a great meeting! Great speakers, very informative and lively, and I must say very approachable. I was able to chat with Frank for quite some time prior to the meeting.

Having organized, chaired and facilitated many meetings I can say even a meeting of only 20-30 individuals is quite a large undertaking, so a meeting of this size, organized by a group of people volunteering their time and resources outside of the 'normal' job, it was a fantastic meeting. As someone previously suggested, I don't know if I am ready (and know enough of the membership) to run for a BOD, but I would be more than willing to help in any way possible for future meetings.

Great job BRS BOD and I was able to enjoy a cookie as well! To top it off I won Joe's Montipoira capricornis and it is looking good in my tank!

One comment though that someone else shared was that I was a little disappointed with Beacon. They had a great setup and display of various corals and I was there early to see all of the hard work and effort to bring in and setup their display. They originally stated they did not want pre-orders for the clean-up crews so I didn't pre-order and planned on purchasing at the meeting and pretty much everything was already gone, to pre-orders. Oh well, life goes on, no worries.

Jamison

Anyone with the interest and willingness to help run the club is encouraged to run for a position Jamison!

In fact I think our current Secretary, Daire Starr, had been a member not much longer than you when she was elected.

Right.
UMB is supposed to have the big screen that drops down, but it was broken.

BTW that venue costs $600 for 4 hours.
The cop at the show is mandatory. When he says get out, it's time to go.

I'd ask for a partial return, simply because something that was vital to the presentations didnt work. They sold us a venue with a big screen, and there was a big screen.

I was also pretty offended by the cop. If we have to pay him, he should be actively doing something, not sitting around reading "Parade" magazine and smoking butts. He also was an absolute jerk, at 3:45 he started swearing about how he wished we would hurry the **** up. If someone was paying me $40+ an hour to sit around and read, I'd give them an extra hour for free if they needed it..just common courtesy.

Other than that, the meeting was great. That, and when all you people rushed out so quick, I got free stuff.

".........after seeing MANY people walking around with 4-6 cookies and they were all gone.........."

this line says it all about the food. Maybe we should get rid of the free food and see how much would then be sold.

More help at these meetings the better.

Hats off to Joe particularly for getting Calfo back in Boston and the rest of the BOD. We did good.

Ed= food police
It's a shame we have to resort to having a food watch but it is necessary. Every meeting someone goes without because someone grabbed more than they were supposed to. The food that is allocated for the meeting should be thought of as a snack & not a full course meal. I personally like how we do it in Raynham. Tickets are a nice way & it prevents someone from going without. I know it isn't possible at every venue but it does work smoother when we can do it that way.
