green algae on glass?

just looking for a good snail that will eat this up, its not hair algae or coraline although its kind of tough, the mag float wont take it off i need a razor. when i scrape it, it just disappears then its back a day or 2 later. this is the only nuisance i got growing in dt besides coraline. is this another form of coraline, should i just leave it?

current snails, 2 turbos, a dozen margaritas, a dozen ceriths(other misc snails, and hermits) they dont touch the stuff

I dont think snails are going to help
you must have relatively high phosphates, then again i think most people clean there glass ever 3-4 days................

i clean my glass every couple of days.....try an algae blenny .....mine does a good job, thinking about giving him a raise....lol

Is it calcium based? I have green coraline in my tank here and there. But, it doesn't grow fast enough to come back in 2 days or so. Sounds like something else. If it is calcium based the lawnmower blenny may not help. Nor snails.

i use rodi, zero tds, the units only around 4 months old, i dont mind cleaning the glass, just seeing if there was a snail out there that will attack this stuff, i guess its normal though and yes im about the same, every 3-4 days cleaning the glass

i had that stuff for a while pretty bad. lowering your phosphates will greatly help reduce the rate at which you have to scrape. ive never seen a tank that was "rid" of the glass algae.

Sounds like green coralline.
I have a lot on my glass as well.
What kind of lights do you have,halides,T5 or Leds?
I have halides with Phoenix 14 K and there's more green coralline than purple now.

i run both t5s and halides, the halides are 10k now, but plan on changing these to 14k in a month or so, the t5s are the atinics, t5s are only a couple months use, the halides are more like 5-6 months old, could it be time for new mh bulbs?

also this isnt coming in like coraline(the spores) it just makes the glass look green, tried taking a pic but it wasnt very clear to see

Yeah, just sounds like green film algae, kind of a PITA, but there isn't much you can do about it other than scrape it. Similar to coralline in requirements, so you can't do much to prevent it. You can dose sodium silicate, to encourage diatoms, they will out compete the film algae and are easily removed with the swipe of a mag-float. I do so and it does work, also provides food for my snails, Randy Holmes-Farley wrote an article on silica dosing maybe around 2003, in advanced aquarist. It's probably still floating around the we if you search. I think " silica in the reef aquarium " or something like that.

thats it green film algae, couldnt think of the name. wish there was just a snail that would eat this stuff
