Green tree coral wont open up...

I had this green tree coral for over 5 months...has always opened up every morning and closed up at night. But for the past 4 days, it hasnt opened up. It's been shriveled up (retracted as if i just touched it).

All of my other corals are doing fine. My parameters are normal. I havent added anything (besides the normal 2 drops of essential elements, iodine, strontium, top off water, etc.) or changed anything in the past week and a half...What's the deal?!

I've gone through at least two that this happened to. For no apparent reason, they just shriveled up and never came back while every thing else in my tank was thriving. I'm going to tag along and see if any one has an actual reason for this......

I would do a couple of 20% water changes over the next 2 days....do you know the iodine level? Is there a fish rubbing it to keep it closed?

I have 2 of these one a very bright green, one a duller color, the dull one is always open and "happy" looking. The bright one is only open maybe every other day or so. I don't dose anything in my tank, all the parms I measure are always good, just normal water changes. It's been like that since I got it, but it has grown since I got it. Not sure whay it's not as happy as the other. I've even moved it around and it's never changed.

nah, i dont know the iodine level...ill try the water change...

I havent seen my fish pay enough attention to it to keep it closed for this long of a period...

give it a week, it may come back.

do you have a toadstool leather? my tree was doing fine until I moved a toadstool near it and it would not open at all when I moved the toadstool to the other side of the tank it was fine again. try running some carbon

Hmm, odd.. My happy one is about 2-3" away from my toadstool.. my unhappy one is all by itself with no other corals even nearby.

nah, i got rid of my toadstool like a month ago...

some xenia is next to it but its always (3 months) been next to it...

Mine did that for a like a week after I came back from vacation and then I noticed it separating and the base started turning brown. Now it's months later and still alive and in 4 differents stalks.

I woke up this morning and it looked like it was shedding (similar to a toadstool coral)...is this normal? I've had it for quite some time and this is the first time that ive seen it "shed".

Is this one of the corals that doesn't like carbon? I remember hearing something about a soft coral that didn't like carbon being run in the tank, but can't remember what it was.

After I did one 20% water change two days ago and some shedding yesterday, the green tree coral has started opening up. It's still not completely open, but i can at least see the polyps...

Thanks everyone for the pointers...

it will get better, if it dies, I will give you a free one.

Thanks dong, that's very very generous of you :D

so far, it looks like it'll pull through...but ill let you know if s*%t hits the fan and it ends up dying...
