Has anyone ever had a paired goby and pistol shrimp suddenly unpair after being together for months?
I have a hi-fin goby and a red-banded pistol shrimp that were paired for about 4–6 months. They were inseparable since I got them as a pair from the reef store. I did a pretty thorough tank cleaning the day before they split up, but the separation didn’t happen until a few days later.
I’m not too worried—it just seems weird. The goby is now hanging out on my brain coral, and the shrimp is doing its own thing solo.
Do they usually re-pair, or is this kind of breakup permanent?
