Has anyone heard of a aquarium manufacturer using tempered glass on a 20g Tall, one of the main front/rear panels. I purchased this aquarium from Petco like 6 years ago...... I figured it was made by aqueon, which according to their site, they don't use tempered glass on that tank.

Well was drilling the panel the same way I drilled my other 20 tall........... Smash......... about 200 million pieces later. Broken up like tempered glass.

Will regular glass break in this fashion if certain conditions are met? (I don't think so personally) ........ I believe it would have had a huge crack or something. But I don't know for sure.

Let me know

Thanks

Ouch, only tempered glass will crack in that fashion.

I know.......... that is whats crazy about it, I would have never thought it would be tempered.

Scared the crap out of me when it popped.

Sorry that happened man. I was actually thinking about drilling a 20gal that I bought from petco because it was on sale. Guess I wont be doing that.

Well , I drilled a 20H about a month ago...... No problem. Like I said my tank was at least 6 years old...... And the resource I was looking at for glass on aqueon tanks have been updated since...... Maybe back in the day they used to use tempered.

I would not let this stop you from drilling it, I will def be drilling another one myself. But as of current production tanks you should be fine.

That sucks Matt......

I know...... Was not expecting that, the tank I got from you Barry drilled nice. You still have the RR one?

Yeah, I missed your thread. It's crazy.
Glad to hear I'm not the only one to have a prob drilling a 20H
