Heater Recommendations

After reading this thread and knowing what I am intending to do.

I am looking for heating recommendations and curious what others are doing that have a similar set up.

I plan on puting two heaters in the sump.

I am looking at two Eheim Jager 300w heaters. Is this overkill or the right amount?

Should I consider putting a heater in the display tank itself. I am really trying to keep as much equipment out of the DT as much as possible.

Should I consider a different brand heater?

I would like to eventually hook the heaters, lights etc to a timer or reef control system.

Thoughts, comments and suggestions welcomed.

more details are needed, we cant recommend a heater size etc, if you dont tell use what your heating...

personally I like Finnex heaters... as all heaters will in fact fail eventually, the only thing i have heard about finnex heaters, is that when they do go, they jus turn off and stop working, as opposed to staying on and cooking your tank... its up to you to choose what works best, and what brand your willing to take the chance with...
ehiem makes good stuff too...

though i dont have one, a external heater controller is always recommended for further safety and prevention of "mishaps"...

Sorry, I copied the link and forgot to paste it into the thread.

180g tank(minus rocks/sand), plus a 75g sump(minus equipment, etc.) So I would estimate about 200-210 gal. Does that sound about right?

I ran two 300w Finnex titanium tubes on my 150g system and never had any issues. I didn't use the Finnex controllers because I heard they're junk, and I didn't run them on my Apex because I wanted redundancy; instead I ran them on a heavy duty analog controller and just had the Apex monitor temp.

Nice thing about the titanium tubes is they don't shatter like glass if you smack them with a piece of LR etc.

I have a titanium one in my tank and its a Via aqua? I bought it from fosters and smith, and had it 3yrs. I am upgrading from a 75, to a 120, and will be putting in 2 heaters. I am putting one in the sump, and one in the DT under some rock.

ok, I have a similar question but my volume is a 36 gal tank
any recommendations?
the heater has to go in the DT but I can place it in the back where it will be unseen.
I'd like to ge a submersible one as well (all comcomponents can be underwater)
I do not have a sump

I would go with a Eheim Jager TruTemp 200 Watt Fully Submersible UL Approved Heater for a 36 gallon.
You could even get away with a 150 watt.
I just had a Finnex fail on me with a titanium tube.The digital controller died on it.Very poor quality controllers,many complaints on them.

Titanium heater on a controller is what I run and dont think Id do it any other way

I run multiple Fluval E heaters for a couple of years now. It has multiple temp sensor built in and are pretty accurate. I also run them on my controller so if something does happen it will not cook my tank.

I was surprised to see the outer casing with those indents, nooks & crannies. I run a tank w/no sump & thought some critters would like to grow in them. Right mow the bottom of my current heater has coraline growing on it. I was caught off guard with that casing, just thought it would be clean like a cigar tube.

Finnex heaters all the way, i have 1 800watt titanium heater in my 250g system and water temp wont go below 78°

What do you think about the model "Finnex HMA Titanium Aquarium Heater 200 watts", it is spec'd for 60-80g

I use Finnex as well and they are hooked to my controller. I have used two with the built in thermostats and both have failed after about 2 years and were in the on position so would have cooked my tank if I didn't have the added security of a controller that turned them off. I just cut off the thermostats and wired a plug on the end and am still using the titanium tubes. I have had a total of 5 of these (2 with thermostats and 3 without) and only one tube has failed over the 4 or so years they have been running

I thought that I saw they had an inline t-stat for the deluxe & HMA, is this not the case?

If you get a Finnex,DO NOT get the digi control with it.Just get the titanium heating element and use your own controller.
1st hand experience here.They crap out in less than 4 months.
