i have a 55 and its been set up since august of '06. everything has been running smoothly. theres about 70lbs liverock, and a rena canister filter. in the tank was a pair of tomato clowns, a coral beauty, a pair of pj cardinals, and a yellow watchman.

last water change was about 3 weeks ago. fed and watched them for a bit yesterday and everyone was fine. this afternoon i get home and the coral beauty and clowns are dead, the pjs are stressed out, but the yellow watchman is perfectly fine...still eating and everything.

i havent checked my levels yet today, but what could possibly cause a massacre like this in less than 24 hours? there are no visible signs on the fish, theyre just goners.

what could be in there that the goby isn't susceptible to?

Is it possible that something got into the tank? A room spray or something?

i thought of that....the cleaning women DID come today, but unless they were actually spraying and cleaning the glass on the tank (which they were told not to), they shouldn't have been near it. its tucked away in the basement and not near anything else....but anything is possible i guess...?

wouldnt that effect the goby too? hes happy as a pig right now with everyone else MIA

Check for stray electric current.
What did you feed the tank? How do you aerate your tank?...low oxygen?Temp?

ill have to check everything electric and make sure its working properly. as far as food, variety is the spice of life in the tank. they get mostly formula I/II depending on the day, pellets, mysid, seaweed.....

as far as i know there was no temp drops, but that doesnt meant it couldnt have happened while we were sleeping. temps at about 78 right now, and since ive been home ive seen the heaters go on and off.

i switched over to the Rena filter in early december, and my levels have all been in check. could it possible be NTS? or has it been too long since i switched to that filter?

i'd test everything you can, i'd gets some carbon going also, feels like something got in the the tank and is sitting high in the water, maybe thats why the Goby is doing ok... trust me i'm reaching, how do your corals look today?

theres no corals in the tank, just mushrooms. they are out and looking good. ill have to throw a bag of carbon in to see if that helps. hopefully whatever is going on is testable, since the remaining livestock is doing fine with whatever is in there...

Could there have been a power outage (leading to low O2 / suffocation?).

I'm really reaching also....

i also had this happen to mein my 24 gal my 2 clowns died w no sign od disese or anything levels checked out ok temp normal me or my fish store had any idea in the world. just one of those mysteries. i ran carbon for a while and now my tank is fine.
