HELP: I don't Know what to Do!

Electrocuting yourself the same day as nearly burning the house down would be a bad idea. Don't stand on a carpet soggy with saltwater and touch live wires . Plug a lamp into both sockets (do both just to be safe, don't trust that the outlet is on the same circut as the other room lights - speeking as one who got quite a zap that way) and shut off the breaker (lights should go off , duh). Then do your messing around. A voltmeter would be beter, but if you have one you probably already know that.

Yeah Im gonna have my step dad do it so they dont got another reason to make me get rid of my tank stuff, so if this isnt the solution and getting a electrician to do it isnt that going to cost like 100$ or so

Have any of you guys read the thread on RC about endcaps on PC bulbs causing fires? Alot of people chimed in saying 'this happened to me too". Basically, the contacts corrode and eventually cause sparks and catches fire.

I just looked at my 55g tank and where one of my bulbs are close to the topof the tank, there is a round melt mark. (my bulbs and ballast sit on top of the tank, with a glass top) So now I'm nervous. I inspected the contacts and bulbs and there are no burn marks or anything, so I don't kinow what caused it. I just bought soome dielectric grease and will be applying it just in case.

Then there is the scare with some of the Aquaspace lights lighting on fire.

Sometimes this hobby is a liittle scary with the floods and the fires

I've been removing all my outlets/switched & installing new ones. Most are very old, some of the outlets didn't hold plugs very well. In addition the ground was connected to the box - which is OK if all metal & outlet is grouned. But I have been adding an additional grounding wire from the new outlet grounding screw to the box. Most of the old outlets & switches didn't have a grounding screw. Better safe then sorry

My step dad set up the outlet with a 3 prong one and Im gonna get one of those GFCI power strips

Sounds good Adam. Nice work in saving the tank. Is the new outlet out of the way of any potential salt water disasters?

Also, what fish died, and why? Do you have some flow running in the tank right now?

well Seems it all turned out good in my intrest, I stood my ground and won but now I have to replace that 2 prog outlet and find out how and why it overflowed, i was wondering if someone with more experience would come and check my setup out, having one friend who knows stuff about aquariums isnt enough imo
