Help needed with recovering from cotton mouth.

The problem is that I do not see him eating at all - I have been feeding frozen shrimp (different types) with and without garlic. Anyone have suggestions to motivate him to eat?

It needs an IV injection.

If fish can't use their mouths, they are doomed.

As harsh as it sounds, a prayer is your only hope.

This is the only thing I can think of, since this has never happened to me.. it's maybe not the best idea, but if you can get him to sit still for a moment (or immobilized somehow, without hurting him), you may be able to use a small syringe to put some small food in his mouth, past the infected part. The danger would be the possibility ripping out the newly grown back mouth tissue, it would have to be done very carefully. How long has he been sick?

never thought about injecting a salt water fish. have had to inject koi back when i first started with them. it is realy not bad to do but you need the right meds and on a fish that small how would you dose it? good luck

If these responses are serious? (Not to imply insult if they are, just confused)

I would just offer the alternative opinion that catching a fish to force feed it or inject it would not be my plan. I would offer live or fresh food and whatever else is available to tempt the fish to begin eating again on it's own (no knowledge on the fish in question, just general statement). If it starts eating again it has a chance, otherwise I would think the stress of being caught and treated/fed somehow would kill it / keep it from getting back to eating and surviving on it's own?

Just a different opinion.....

u may try a garlic additive in the tank as this will enhance the smell of food, also try some smaller live ghost shrimp, or live brine. its all up to the fish they either eat or die.

Well, thank you all for your replies and I regret to update you that I lost the fish. Your inputs were very helpful and appreciated. My lesson learned is to not take fish from a lfs that recently arrived and/or that you don't personnally see eating. Thanks again to those that responded.
