What has changed in the tank recently? Check that nothing electronic is shorted out in your tank and go through your test kits to see if any parameters are out of whack.
I checked parameters and there in check only thing havent done anything different. Luckly I caught it in the base and not all the stalks so I can frag most of them.
Something is putting the voltage in there. Powerheads and heaters are the most likely culprits so I would start pulling them out 1 by 1. And hopefully you have the system on a GFI before you start sticking you hands in there.
I am new with acros and others sps. When getting some frags at the house of an old member I asked him about STN, just to learn. He told me that the trick was to keep colonies with high water flow betwen the branches. Colonies with lot of branches will reduce the water flow allowing detritus to stay withn the branche causing STN.
I remember that he also told me that the solution was to frag immediatelly the afected sps. The chemicals that the necrosed tisue is producing spread the STN to the other corals.
Stn usually doesnt happen at base.... it starts at middle/ top of conlny, are you sure you arent bleaching? Stn the tissue flakes away and you get a bright white skeleton underneath, bleaching it gets off white but not bright white... and the color comes back very eaislly... make sure it's stn before you go to town on them!
STN almost RARELY starts from base up, it's top down. JME
