help

Typically bubbles form in the overflow because the return pump is not powerful enough or there are too many bubbles in the water column being sent into the skimmer box. I had the same problem and got a greater gph sump pump, problem solved. Hope this helps.

You have a bubble trap in your sump? A lot of times, bubbles from your drai/skimmer section make it to you pump. Is your pump submerged or external? May have a problem with plumbing if external or cavitation. Another thing, if it is fairly new plumbing, it may take a few weeks to build up a slime coat in the pipes.

What kind of overflow are we talking about? HOB or built in?

Where is the microbubble problem occuring / being seen?
-where the water meets the sump?
-Bubbles in a U-tube breaking siphon?
-Display tank getting flooded with tiny bubbles?

Built in overflow the water level behind isnt as high by like an inch so when the water flows its creating bigger bubbles u can see them go down then up its weird and then just makes the bubbles smaller going thru the sump

sometimes slowing down the return? If I have mine on to high I get some small bubbles

Good Luck Derek

I tried to lower it one setting and it doesnt seem like enough power it fills up the sucks the water down then fills up again maybe closing the ball valve a little?

What kind of drain do you have? Sounds like problem is in the overflow. Do you have a standpipe? Is it chugging or is it queit?

mine did that and closing the valve a bit made the chugging stop...i also added an upside down T fittng on the horizontal run of the drain and it relieved a lot of air in line

We really need to know what kind of drain system to figure this out. Restricting a vented drain can cause a major flood risk...

it came with the tank its a u shaped pipe and then when it gets to the regular one inch pipe theres 2 holes in the side and on the top of the u there is a small straw coming out the top then i have a proflex 3 sump then from that it goes into my blowhole then out then up then over to the return pipe and back up and out i turn off my pump while feeding and it doesntflood so i know i wont have a problem if i lose power ill take a pic after work if that doesnt help also i put a strainer on my bulkhead leaving my sump and put one of thoes black sponge type things on it that was on my aqua c remora hob skimmer pump before andit kind of helped

OMG, punctuation needed, my head hurts from reading that :(

Sounds like you have a standard duroso set up. With that some bubbles are pretty much inevitable, but there is a lot that can be done to reduce them. First I would suggest searching for "reverse duroso" which is a DIY thing you can add on the sump end of the drain that will help to reduce the turbulance going into the sump, and in turn lets some of the bubbles rise out.

You mentioned a ball vavle, where is this valve located? Is it on the drain plumbing? If so then it needs to stay %100 open or it's a big flood risk. If it's an air valve then by all means try fiddling with it.

To help more it would be a lot easier if you could post a pic of the sump and the drain plumbing going into it.
