Humidity problems in house

I had a really bad problem with this. I installed a small exhaust fan in my canopy that is temperature and humidity controlled. Problem is gone! I tried dehumidifiers but with my large tank, they did not do the job efficiently, they were loud, and I had to empty them every day. The exhaust fan eliminates all these problems.

I remember you showing that system when Gerri & I came to your house I'm interested in it Where did you find it

That is very ODD.

My house is always dry during this time (Winter).

I have to buy Xlarge HUMIDIFIER and fill them twice a day to keep my piano room at above 60. It will quickly drop to low 40 if i forget to refill water.

Maybe my house has so much draft? it is built in 2002.

Man it is so odd to have read this during the Winter month. I would think with the heat running, the air would dry out too. I keep my house Day:68degreeF. Night:65degreeF

Am i doing something wrong?

Ditto here too. I have a condo town house built in the 1990s, I have a full basement/attic and all of 3 windows and a sliding door (middle unit) and I'm lucky to get the humidity above 40% in the winter running 68F/64F if I don't run humidifiers. Right now my basement humidity according to the sensor is 20% ! I was 40 - 50% when running a couple of small humidifiers a couple of weeks ago, but got lazy. I guess the couple of tanks aren't enough, need a bigger tank to humidify the house...

I have the same type of problem, Some condensation on the windows inside when it is really cold outside. We don't keep our heat very high and so it does not "dry out" like a house kept at 70. 180 gallons can over humidify a house even in the winter!

Hey Iffer,
I got the 45 Pint LG dehumidifier from Home Depot, and it has kept my place @ 35% humidity since I set it up. What a difference. No condensation, and it doesn't smell like a fish store whan I get home anymore. How have you guys been? Haven't seen you at the meetings lately.

I just move the Humididy meter from the basement (48%) to the 1st floor and got a read of 41% right next to my tank.
I have about 2 1/2 to 3g of evaporation p/day in my 120 and about 1g at my 40g frag tank (basement).

i have recently put the tops back on the tank along with canopy tops..
humidity had decrease by about 15% the next day and since then no longer have major precip on windows.

How about the sump? Is it covered? I was loosing 3+ gal a day till I covered the sump. Now I am down to ~ 1 gal.

no both sump and fuge are open...what you use to cover them with?

I need to redo my sump si I can insulate it in the winter & cover it
My basement seems to stay around 40-45% with a dehumidifier running almost all the time
I just bought the LG 65 pt & it stopped after 3 days. Not sure why, it started right back up. But I'm bringing it back & getting one from Sears I think

I haven't checked my humidity on the 1st floor. The tank is covered & I burn wood, so I can't imagine it's too high. At my last house I ran a humidifer in the winter

What do you use to test humidity? One of those little weather station setups?
