Hydor's Koralia pumps are finally able to be purchased.

We got these in yesterday. I hooked up a #3. There are definitely pros & cons when you compare them to the nano streams. Pros are prop pump flow with minimal cost, and are probably going to be in much better supply than the tunzes. Cons are that they are definitely lesser quality materials, and if you read the warranty fine print just about everything that happens in a reef tank is going to void the warranty. Also the magnets aren't nearly as strong, and the pumps take up more physical size in the aquarium. The #3 is 850 gph and 10 watts, where the nano 6045 is 7 watts and 1150 gph.. so they aren't quite as powerful as well. I"m sure they are going to sell extremely well, and people who buy them will certainly have good results in their aquariums. If availability was equal, I think I would stick with tunze in my personal tanks, but can't fault anyone who chooses the koralias.

Nice review Jeremy. I noticed the magnet was not as heavy duty as I would have liked but the unit is plastic and light so I think "hope" they will be ok. I am getting great flow.

I think you are right that Tunze is better quality, however I think the Koralia's put Seio's to sleep.

I am getting two #3 for my 75 gallon. I am looking forward to giving these a shot. I really didn't expect Tunze quality for about half the cost. I saw a koralia #3 in action and was very impressed.

Yeah, they should definitely make the rio products go away.. probably too much to wish for tho. :p

Jeremy how would you compare the direction of the flow relative to the Tunze. I have two of the #4s but no experince with the Tunze. The flow on these seems very dispersed and some what random in it's direction. What are the Tunze like?

I'm gonna chime in hear as I have both and compared them.. But this is my opnion.
Tunze 6060 I have. I can put 1 Tunze on 1 end of the reef and it is more of a funneled stream that gets all the surrounding water moving as well as the funnel itself. In a couple of minutes all the tank water is moving.
The Koralia although it moves water the power dies after it gets dispersed, but 2 koralia's can affectively do somewhat of the total water movement as 1 tunze.(That I Have) If the tunze is too much flow I can see how the Koralia is a great fit.
If money comes into play the Koralia is great for the cost.

You are absolutely right. That is why I need a Koralia instead of a Tunze.
The Koralia dones't move any water beyond 2 feet away. But with in the 2 feet, there are a lot of flow circling.

I don't get it, the direction of the flow come out of the pump seems random. I am watching the polyps waving in the current left and right, fast and slow.

I love them so much and I need more, more and more!

i thought the #3 was 6.5 watts and the #4 was 8.5 watts......does the pump itself read different...i haven't purchased one yet, but that is what i've read on vendor sites.....

#4 is 8.5 watts.

ok, it was mentioned above that the #3 was 10 watts, so i just wanted to clear it up

really....on fosters and smith they say its 6.5....are there any other sites that give the wrong wattage?

on RC someone put a #4 on a meter and it pulled 12 watts. fosters and smith say 8.5.....i think they should give us all free pumps for mis-representation. are you all game?

Anyone have any #4s in a 75g tank? I've got two #3s and they have quite a bit of flow. One of them blew my GFCI once and is also making a humming sound (other one is dead silent), so Hydor said to send them both back anyways... They said I can either wait for the #3s to come in stock by the end of the month, or they would upgrade me to two #4s now. Is two #4s going to be too much flow for a 75g? Mostly sps with some lps.

Thanks!

-Mike

i would say go with the upgrade...they are more expensive anyways....if you think 2 is too many when you get them..sell one of them and use the money for a #2 or #3.....

I think two 4 is NOT too much for a 75 gallon if go SPS. One 4 is about right for LPS. Two 3 is perfect.
