I found the Petco training video

OMG!
That is unbelievable. I really can't believe my eyes. Is that really form the Early show???
Something has got to be done.
Idiots!

That's a fairly old clip from the Early Show. It has nothing to do with Petco though, not sure where you're getting that from. The lady giving the demo was from Tetra. When this first came out Tetra got a lot of complaints!

You have to love the list of common mistakes that the person rattles off...maybe she should have alluded to her own mistake of putting 2 clowns and a hippo into a 5 gallon tank!

that's how petco "in general" deals with marine livestock and advice they attempt to feed new customers..

"where i get it from" is all the issues i deal with from customers returning to the store after dealing with the incompetent employees wearing a Petco name badge.

it's used to explain that:
"artificial plants are a little bit easier to care for than live plants."

ictrotflmao!!!!!!

That got slammed all over the web when it came out, there were alot of Tetra boycots (I've even got a graphic that used to be my sig at alot of fish forums).

At the time, we did have a few local LFS (gone now) selling 7gal bowfronts to people for yellow freakin tangs... those people were quite PO'd when they came into Petco to buy said tang and I said in no uncertain terms that they could not put a tang in that tank (most of them spent $250+ on those 7gal minibows too...)

There were great big online tirades against the head of Marketing at Tetra, and a big push to get her fired

IMO Petco wants people to buy proper sized tanks - heck, that's the only part they know for sure that customer will buy from them, once the customer has the tank they might buy the livestock/food/supplies anywhere.

However - I am very annoyed to find out that Petco has discontinued the Hikari Mysid frozen food, which IMO is the best all around frozen food they carried (followed closely by Formula I and II from Ocean Nutrition). Especially considering the greater % of cardinals and small planktivorous wrasses they are carrying lately.

Well according to her & her 1 inch of fish per gallon of water  rule...she's within her limits on the 3 inch tang and 2 clowns in 5 gallons!

I'm also glad to hear that hippos are being farmed now...where can I get myself a tank bred hippo tang for my 20? Oh right...FL...thats where most are being bred.

Whats wrong with a hipo tang in a 5g tank? It's got 2 ocellaris and some sea horses to paly with... I bet it'd be quite happy.

I remember when this came out. It was disgusting.

I sure hope someone at Tetra got fired for that nonsense.

Also, I don't think we ever came to a resilution on what to do with local PetCo's.

Matt:cool:

Matt, go check the other thread. We're working with one of the local Pet Co's to have a table. It's being discussed now.

it goes to show that each and every store location is not one in the same..
the new gm where i'm at sells folks the 1/2g bowl for the fantails....
now that would have made a great store training video..damn where was my camera.....:D funny stuff.

heck,,even their handy dandy care handouts recommends a min of 30g for the tang species... what do you think customers think after reading that and i suggest a min of a 240 for the Naso..:D
oh oh..who here has their naso in a 180g....???????

nemo

i cant believe that either
does any one know what the outcome was?
did tetra have some sort of apology posted???

Heh, I love some of the comments from the expert:
regarding the rocks added to the 5 gal bowfront:
"yes they (fish) do need a place to hide, and it helps them with breeding...", heh as if 2 ocelaris, a hippo, 2 seahorses and a pair of serpents weren't enough for that 5 gal. :D :D
And regarding most common mistakes:
"Well, there are a couple common mistakes people make, the first, they put too many fish in the tank" umm, duh like 5 fish in a 5 gal

and got to get me some of those Piranah for my kid.... since "feeding time is so much fun". :D

I think i'll put a whale shark in my 150gal!!!! Just as long as i don't overfeed it. :p
