I need to buy a skimmer tomorrow

Is the algae gone yet?

What a difference a week makes. Last weekend, I broke the body on my skimmer when I started my fish room. I plugged in my QT tank spare skimmer, but with 400g of water, and the damn mess I made moving my sump and all my downstairs tanks, it isn't even making a dent.

I'm getting HA starting, water is cloudy, and water parameters are slipping.

I need to buy skimmer tomorrow. and have it shipped here quickly. I need something that will do the ~400 gallons I have, with a medium bioload.
I'm a little leery of the sicce pumps...and cost is a factor so that puts ATI out of contention. I am leaning towards a Coralvue Hurricone Category 2.

Anyone have one? Any suggestions on where to get one?

I am thinking about getting a Coralvue Hurricone cat 2 myself. I believe it is a replacement for the coralvue pro 300 that uses the Askoll 1500 pump. Not the extreme series that used the sicce pumps. They Hurricone are new on the market but I have read a lot about the CV pro 300 on RC and haven't found any complaints when searching about the pro 300.

damn. Salt water connections is out of stock, and MSX only has 'leaky' volutes, and no pinwheels.

190 bucks for shipping to get it for the weekend. The credit card has started smoking in my wallet while I contemplate this......

Talk to Mike at ReefSpecialty and ask him about the ReefFloOrca 250 Pro skimmer.

So my VISA actually caught fire........

Thanks Paul. I read the PM about 5 minutes after ordering the skimmer. My corals health is hanging in the balance, and I had no idea how just 5 days skimmerless would make such a big difference.

Dove deep, bought the cone skimmer.

No sicce pumps, 65 watts of draw, and some of the most recent technology. Now I just have to a-splain the transaction on my VISA to the Mrs. when we agreed to scale back non-discretionary purchases. ;)

Actually, the deadline for doing the spending stop was 1-20, so I'm a few days early. The corals better appreciate it; this $ was originally earmarked for a new TV. :(

Your corals' lives are hanging in the balance. Hardly a non-discretionary purchase. ;)

wow...shipped, looks like I will see it by lunchtime on Saturday. after I drive home 3 hours, I get to do another big water change.....around midnight.

my own fault.......

Huh, I heard the UPS guy got mugged in your neghiborhood just the other day.

Don't worry though, I just ordered one too so if yours doesn't show up I'll show you mine ;)

as long as I can borrow what you're currently running until mine, err.....shows up, I'm good.

Methinks I might hang around on Saturday....those Sudbury people might come across the border....and they are very shifty* :D

*to those of you who don't know...Sudbury is a very exclusive and expensive town to live in, unlike dumpy ol' Marlboro, the other 'boros' poor cousin.

Nothing good happens fast on a reef

:(

The skimmer got here a day earlier than I thought it would. Pretty fast, right?

Then I unboxed it. Thanks Fedex!
