I need to buy a skimmer tomorrow

Gee this story sounds framilar. Do you and Paul have the same UPS guy or something?

Beaut of a skimmer, shame on the shipping. I take it you'll keep it?

Jeff @ Marine Solutions has promised to swap out the whole thing, with the new pinwheel, the new machined volute, and (hopefully) a non-cracked skimmer body in about 2 weeks. He told me to use this one in the meantime, while HE (not me :)) deals with the Fedex claim. The customer service simply cannot be matched...outstanding.

That really blows, always the way though, while I would never stick up for Fed Ex or UPS, I'm sure the cold weather did not help, glad to hear they are standing behind it, BTW, nice skimmer.

Now that is NOT a framiliar story. I bet Paul is jelous now ;)

I think the difference is I paid full boat retail...which had a lot more margin than the group-buy price the 2-flii BK300 had....

BTW.....As nice as the skimmer is...it is INSANE how much high(er) end skimmers cost, and I'm looking at the price of mine near the very bottom of the high(er) end skimmers.

IMO with high end skimmers you are legitimately paying a good % of the price for the design research that went into the product. That and the whole reefing trend thing ;)

Seriously though, your paying for design and refinement, but your paying a premium for it.

sorry for you bad luck Jay.

Is that pump used? it looks like the screws are rusting

Nah, mine is still bigger. :D

Apparently that skimmer is a loaner until his new and improved one shows up. That's some customer service to help you in a bind like that Jay. It looks like a real nice skimmer too. I wonder just how much better an ATB is? They look ideantical.

<clearing throat> We all know BK is another story of course. :p ;)

In the FWIW category...it has already started pulling skimmate.

it seems to be VERY sensitive to water level changes. I had to pull the collection cup off, because I almost flooded it when I adjusted the sump water level.

So I emptied the cup....no nog yet

:(

The skimmer got here a day earlier than I thought it would. Pretty fast, right?

Then I unboxed it. Thanks Fedex!

I’m not buying it was FedEx this time, this is what I think. Someone broke the skimmer, and rather than go to the manufacture to have to replaced, they just shipped it to a customer and would place a claim to pay for a new one. Jay what are the chances that the only damage during shipping was that little crack? I have seen this way too many times with items being shipped,

I knew about the pump beforehand. They did me a favor, and shipped me the pump they were running on THEIR skimmer, which was the only one they had. They're swapping it out in 2 weeks, and that was the plan from day 1. I can't say with certainty that they did what you are suggesting, but there WAS evidence of a hard drop on the outside corner of the box that lined up with where the skimmer input (and crack) was.

You all may go into shock, but I'm going 'glass-half-full'. :: They couldn't have shipped it any faster, didn't hammer me on it, I have a hard-core functional skimmer running in my system, and even though there is a problem, the distributor has told me they will swap it, and make it right.

It's already making skimmate, too, and my water (subjectively) is noticeably more clear.

I've talked with Jeff at MarineSolutions a number of times. If he can't make it happen or doesn't have it, he's very up front in telling you. So far in my dealings with him he's been nothing but a class act. They definitely have my business in the future.

I hope I'm leaving that impression too. This is the second skimmer I've bought from them.....

Mine was cracked in a similar spot.

Jay, was the pump attached to the skimmer in the box? Mine was and was supposed to be held in place  with a piece of masking tape.

Jay,
Sorry to hear this bud. Hope it all works out for you. My offer still stands if you need more skimming, in the meantime.
Oh and I do sell the ATB skimmers, we never discussed them as an option, cause they are a higher price point.

Would love to see some pics once you get it running good.
