I think I'm dealing with bryopsis

So my question is, can anybody in the attleboro area help by housing my small (1.5"-2") clam so I can raise my mag. I hate to loose anything but at this point I am loosening corals so I don't mind loosing some snails but I can't loose my clam.

You're losing stuff?
Does raising Mg. hurt clams?
I've had mine up over 1500 ppm with no issues.

I've raised mine up befor and didn't have any issues with my clam or really anything in my tank.

Really I was expected to loose my snails at least, I haven't started raisin yet because I'm afraid of loosing my clam. It is a young amazing looking clam. I am starting to loose some of my SPS because of the bryopsis not the mag

I think raising it 100 ppm a day is what they recommend with tech m mg

How are you losing sps from the bryopsis? I can house it for you I am sure my other clams would like the company for a bit and I am right in Plainville.

The bryopsis started at the base of the sps and has slowly smothered it over the last 6 months, it is also attacking one of my birds nest but it grows to fast to smother the fast growing birds nest

I would raise your mag by 100ppm like psu4me said with kent tech m magnesium. It worked for me a few years ago. I actually documented it on here or on reef central. I will try and find it. Unfortunately it came back and is now immune to the tech m (I've been told) because it wont DIE!!! Keep it at 1600 for awhile until it is all gone. Took about 3 months total for me to raise the mag, kill the bryopsis, and get my mag back to normal level. Also pull out as much as you can manually, I found that to be a major help. Can u take a pic so we can see how much you are dealing with?

Also, back on track, I didn't loose anything in the whole ordeal.

If you have the room I heard a fox face will munch on it. I'm going to try one and I'm going to try some lettuce nudibranches as well. Worth a shot I think. I hate this stuff!!

there are two pictures, yes they suck but thats all i had on my phone. i will try and take better ones tonight. on the full tank shot the center rock and the one to the top right are the ones affected the most

Hard to tell you have to look at the structure, do a search for byropsis and look at the images. the image you posted could be hair algae but not a good enough image to tell the difference. Byropsis has a feather like structure

Yeah that's hard to tell. As mentioned above dies the structureooloke a fern? Take a piece out And lay on a piece of paper and use water to spread it out, should give you a good look.

ok, i will try that tonight. i have had a hard time telling also but my nitrates are .25 but my phosphates are zero my ph is 8.0 my alk is in the "normal" range on the test kit, mag is 1200. so thats why i think it is byropsis and not HA because the nirates are the only thing that is out of wack

I have some bryopsis, I pluck it out every time i do a water change and try to suck up the loose particles. I think its time to change my bulb though.

Your phos is probably high as well. The Bry/HA is most likely using it up,so the test would read zero.
Do you have a sump/fug?Maybe you can get some cheato growing and starve the nuisance algae.

i do have a fuge with cheato and LR in it, i dont remember the measurements but i am pretty sure i made it a 20g fuge

look up hydrogen peroxide dosing. alot of people have had very positive results in short periods of time.

I'd have to pull everything out so the might not work for me
