Now that you say that Bob I did get 2 pieces of LR off a fellow reefer 2 weeks ago. I wish he would have told me.

That would be rough if you got it from LR.
It could be that this other reefer may have had ich and it never was a problem.Never even showed any signs of the parasite.
Cryptocaryon is a real PITA.It's suited perfectly to survive in our captive systems.

The fish has been in my DT for a little over 3 months. There were no signs of parasites. I had never had ich in dt before

Either of the following:
> system had a low level of c.irritans and stress due to low temp may have allowed parasite to take hold more readily. fish produce less mucous under stress, which makes it easier for parasite to latch on.

> as mentioned the addition to anything added from another system containing livestock could introduce the parasite into your system. the 2 week time frame is consistent with the first visible signs of the lifecycle.
that happened to me with LR addition.

Options:
> not much you can do with the DT except fallow it for 10 weeks and treat all inhabitants with copper.
> if fish is eating fine then don't do anything see if it can recover on it's own by improving immune system without the stressors present.
> if the fish is really bad get it out and treat with cupramine for 2 weeks add back in and see what happens. if it repeats you will probably need to fallow tank if you want to continue and keep this fish.
> if other fish are not effected you can decide not to add tang back in and just treat and find another home for it.

good luck

But if I treat the DT with copper I can never have a reef tank. Right? Or is it just not in the near future.

Pretty much yes, don't treat your display tank with copper unless you never want it to be a reef.

you would need to remove the fish and treat in qt. I blasted my DT 10 months ago i'll be adding corals again soon, we'll see what happens.
added one hermit last week so far still moving..

jimmyj--what's up brother..i'm back.only took 1.5 years.. almost totally lost interest.

If this is a FOWLR right now with no crabs/shrimp or anemone you could run the DT hypo for 6-8 weeks. It's been done many times on other reefer sites.Makes it a little difficult to skim, but the fish stay put and the rock.

*I'll add that I'm not really a fan of this procedure.
Better to treat in a separate tank.
