You know the saying?
Bad week I guess. So I was getting bored with the tank so I need to do a little change. Ahh..what the heck, I'll start with cleaning the tunze nano. It needs a little scrubs. Took it out of the tank, put it in the sink. Crap, the clip broke....
Ahhh...the metal halide pendant is pretty filty with salt splash. I guess I'll clean it. Took down the hood and "plunked" goes the T-5 ballast in the tank(Luckily it was off at the time). Pulled out the plug and decided to wait until today for it to dry and turn it back on. 5 minutes passed..."pssshhhh".....crap.....there goes the ballast.
Oh man.......I'm afraid to touch the calcium reactor now....
Can't complain though, I need some excitement in this hobby. Been sitting back too long.

What ever you do... DO NOT GO TO THE BATHROOM!!!!

We have all had those types of weeks. We tried to tiddy things up in our tanks and we end up making things worse. You just have to grin and say that it is part of the reefing hobby!

All part of this wonderful hobby! Isn't it great when stuff just randomly craps the bed?

I did a little maintenance myself last night.I know exactly what you're saying.
When you start removing things from the tank there's always the chance something will break.Wires/tubes are like wrestling with an octopus.Placing things where they wont get knocked over or stepped on.I ran the powerhead for my skimmer in a vinegar water in a bucket for a while. It tipped back and started to flood the floor........another lesson learned.

OMG! I've got 2 running for flow in my sump. Don't even SAY that!

Ok,i'll retract my comment.lol
It's surprising how far a Maxi-Jet 1200 will spray.

I have gotten so accustomed to snapping the small piece of rigid tubing coming out of the top piece of my calcium reactor that I set up to fix it before I remove the top now. I've learned to not do it when I'm limited for time. I swear, my wife stands at the top of the stairs listening for the cursing to start, "F&^*%$# Deltec"!

Ahhh... good to see I am not the only one who has done that.... BTW Don, another new pump on the way. I still want that other info., though... for the next time it goes down.

Drill it out, tap the plastic, screw in a john guest fitting :)

What are you going to do with the dead ballast?

Trash.
I knew I would get a short after I dropped it in the tank from the salt water when it dried. Thats why I waited and watch it to happen so I that I can pull the plug and not burn the house down. It's a T5 ballast I use for my actinic. If it was my IceCap Metal Halide ballast, then I would be in panic mode.

You might have tried washing it in fresh water, and letting it dry a couple days. Might not have fried, and washing it with fresh water might have prevented corrosion....

Sorry for your loss....
