as everybody knows when you order online live stock it needs to be shipped over night. well the past couple of times i have ordered live stock online fed ex always delays my package due to weather in other states. and if live stock dies, guess what, no one wants to be liable for it. so basically you lost all your money and the live stock. today i was suppose to receive a order of live stock from fed ex and once again they delayed it because of bad weather. i called fed ex to see if my package was coming today and they said they don't know. that someone will call me back with more details. so far no one has called me back. i will never buy online again thanks to fed ex being inresponsible and never giving me my package when they are suppose to. i was suppose to get my package overnight by 10am and now who knows if it's even coming today

what a crock, the online vendor should be held liable as well imo. i always thought stuff like that could happen, hence why ive never ordered online, but now i know for sure, sorry to hear that

i looked at the online vendor website and it says they are not liable for weather delays. so i am guessing if i call them lettting them know what is going on they are going to say, "sorry they are not liable". yea personally, and my opinion to everybody else don't order online live stock because just like this is happening to me it could happen to anybody else. for now and on i am going to buy live stock at my lfs

I'm not sure about FedEx, but UPS usually has insurance on thier packages included in the shipping cost, up to a certain dollar amount. There is no reason why you should not recover at least some of the money.

FedEx shipping is awful IME, I've yet to have a package delivered when it was supposed to arrive when they're the carrier.

Just my opinion. I deal with freight, shipments, deliveries etc for many years. You would think that this vendor would have something in place and be proactive to not ship something if there was even a chance of the order being delayed. Especially live stock.

In short just a total disregard to common sense and value added service. Sort of like sending ice cream to Iraq on the hottest day of the year in an open duece and a half.

What are Fed Exp TOC on their website. No liability at all even if shipment is insured? There has to be some recourse.

Good luck! I feel your pain.

i just tracked the package again online and now the package is stuck at the west boylston, ma facility. the truck that is heading to worcester left without my package because my package came afterwards. so again i called fed ex to see if it is being delivered today or tomorrow. and again they said they won't know until they do another scan later today. they said it was either coming today afternoon time or tomorrow

Last I knew, Fedex will not take any responsibility for livestock shipped, neither will UPS.

As sucky as it sounds, the fedex guys would rather have some packages get there late than have a downed plane with dead pilots because they tried to fly through a tornado zone, like most of the mid-west was yesterday.

This is one of the reasons many of our sponsor LFS have them shipped SAME day, and go to the airport to go and pick the items up. Even then they often have significant losses.

you may be able to retrieve it at the fedex facility....short drive from worcester, might be worth a call

well fed ex called and said they could meet us down the street with our package

right now i have my package already. opened the package and found my mandarin goby dead in the bag. rest of the live stock is a live and doing well. going to take a picture of the mandarin in the bag to try and get my refund because it arrived dead

in the online vendor website it says to still acclimate the live stock even if it looks dead. so that is what i am going to do. i am going to acclimate the mandarin even if it looks dead. right now the mandarin is in the bag acclimating to the tank temp. will update

What kind of Mandarin?

FWIW If I get livestock shipped I always request to have it held at the local office and pick it up there. This way if things go according to plan I get it first thing in the AM, and if not I can go get it as soon as it does arrive. This can make the difference between a delay of hours vs a full day.

Also it's good to take into account seasonal variables such as weather and the holidays. For example I would not order anything alive online between thanksgiving and christmas because all the shippers are flooded and all sorts of delays are possible.

Sorry to hear. I agree... stop buying from online vendors. Between the mark up, the shipping costs, the liability, the uncertainty etc, why bother? You can just go to the LFS and support the little guy, see your livestock prior to buying it, and bank the savings....

Jeff is correct. Jay at Jays can order just about anything your looking for. I got my mandarin from him for like 15.00. Anyway sorry to hear about the experience and hope it works out in your favor.

thank you everybody

i put the mandarin in my refugium because it was not doing good in the display tank. the mandarin was blowing every where in the tank. the mandarin is breathing heavily and it seems like it just doesn't have energy to swim at all. when i took him out of the bag he had his fins and tail nipped. so i am guessing he was picked on in the tank he was in before. i really don't think he is going to make it

FedEx

Jenreef - FedEx doesn't cover lost fish/coral. They simply don't guarantee these items ( there's a list of items not covered). Most retailers won't cover delayed shipments ( your fault or shipping co's fault).

The best thing to do - if you aren't buying local :) - is to look at the weather from shipper to you. If it's going to be really cold or hot or windy, etc. don't place your order.

for now and on i am defenitely going to buy local. that way i know there is going to be no delays with the fish getting to my aquarium. and i can also see the fish in person to make sure it is healthy
