Imperator Angel?

smcnally

Tankless
Anyone have one in their reef? Any horror stories? I've heard they are a "No-No", but I just got a message from a guy I know that is breaking down his tank and will have a nice adult available. He has a lot less corals than me, but he does have some LPS, SPS, and softies and he has said before that the angel doesn't bother any of the corals. Would it be an issue putting it in with a powder blue tang and hippo tang?

Steve, I had one once...took out all my zoanthids and picked on some sps polyps for kicks and giggles. I've heard that they do well in all sps as long as they are fed well. Not sure about the meat corals and fleshy lps.

Bummer...I have lots of zoas and SPS. Anyone else? I know there's always some that are perfect little angels (pun intended), but I'm just not sure I'm willing to take the chance with my corals even though this fish is absolutely beautiful. Are they tough fish to catch?

I have had great luck with mine with Sps and a couple of Lps ( frogspawn and hammer) . I also have a blue face and a regal in the same tank with good luck for a couple of years now.

Come on Jim, we all know you have a couple of more angels in there. Is there an angel you dont have in the tank?

So what do you all think? Should I give it a shot? This is the tank it would go in

Emperor Angel

Steve,

I have one in mine and it doesn't seem to bother any corals or clams. Mine is still a juvenile though (4") -- just barely changing colors. With a full adult, it may be set in it's ways if it has previously eaten LPS/softies. They don't touch any SPS. I guess as long as you feed it well, it should look for other food. They are very beautiful fish.

Good luck.

Alex

I think you will have better success with Majestic Angel if you like to try large angel. I have kept one but it was FOWLR. In my research on RC, i found that they are ok with SPS but mostly all softy and meaty LPS are at great risk.

My Imperator angel cleaned out all the Aiptasia in few days, that kind of tells you that they can pretty much eat any soft/lps corals if they decide to go after. Most of the time, juvenile will behave but it might easily change when they get big.

I would try with majestic rather then Imperator IMO. My imperator was very easy to catch as he was good size and can't hide that easily :)

I wasn't planning on even getting an angel, so I really wouldn't consider any other kinds. This is a pretty large adult (6-7 inches) and according to the owner, it has been very good in his tank. I was only considering it because it is such a beatiful fish and he would probably sell it to me for a very good price.

Well, I think I'm gonna try it out. I just got off the phone with him and he has it in a tank with zoas, digitata, monti cap, galaxia, a couple small acros, and a clam and he said it doesn't pick on anything. He said he had it in a FOWLR until it was an adult so he thinks since it had nothing to pick on it just got used to being fed. He said it hasn't fully changed but is close. He is also going to give the fish to me for free, so I can't pass this up.
