I've always thought that Bostonreefers is a reef forum for hobbyists to discuss and ask questions pertaining to the marine and reef aquarium hobby and the focus is not to be a marketplace. And yet I do see some people on that forum are going way over board. They take advantage of the forum by telling people that they are doing this as a hobbyist but they are actually using the forum to make profit on selling their corals every day.
Ask them, "would they still be doing this (farming corals in their basement) as a hobbyist if they are not allowed to sell their corals?". I hardly see these people provide comments when beginner hobbyist asks question(s). All they care is the market place.

Who ever it is they don't even know what they are talking about. Aquaman hasn't bumped his threads in a really long time. PVH has only had 1 for sale thread recently and it was for grab bags at a meeting. Nick only does it ever once and a while to cover some of the cost of his tank and Frank and Dong have been long standing members who have donated to the club many times. So who ever you are get your facts straight. Sounds to me like they where trying to sell commercial and got band or suspended. BooHoo

I don't know all the names but been to Dz6t's house a couple times and he has helped me alot. Even my kids have gone to see his basement. The person that took out that ad is a wanker and not really worried. Love it here and hopfully be up @ Dz6t's house Sat if all goes well.

no kidding as long as these guys are selling cool frags for good money I'm totally cool with it. Why should we pay more for anything when we don't have to. Farming coral isn't that easy. If they want to make a few bucks. ....so what?

Yes, he is !! SO worth the drive. Love to live in his basement lol. Took hubby last time I was there and thought hubby wouldn't leave. Told him 1 day we'll have a reef tank too. Hubby was more festinated with the wave maker lol. Wish his clowns would have babies already too !!

Apparently some people get upset when they are unable to comprehend and follow the rules all of the above mentioned club members DO follow.

Boo Hoo....

I have a millions times to say about this and I'm sure there are a lot of members who would back me up but I decided to not because only time will tell. To the person who posted this on CL get your facts straight before you mention our names. What have you provided to BRS compared to what the members you mentioned?

All I can do is just laugh at this post. This is a joke. LMAO

I found it pretty comical myself... My opinion is this "someone" Bought a few high end frags,Failed at them Miserably.... Asked for a refund, Got told the facts of life, And Is now bitter... Just my.02

The craigslist poster is probably grumpy after getting slapped with the ban stick. Anyone leave recently lol? There are a couple problems i have with posts like theirs though that should be brought up.

Beginners and people addicted to the internet are posting on forums all the time. Experienced reefers/addicts often have posted thousands of times and are tired of answering simple questions when others can answer them just as easily. You dont ask the Albert Einstein of reefing "what temp should i keep my tank". Their fingers are tired after answering this all the time!!! Now they are like super heroes. They dont post to your thread when you want them to, they only show up if you Need them.....and others havent helped you solved your problem yet. Have you ever asked these people for their opinion? Asked for help?

It is very hypocritical for anyone to complain about anyone's participation level. Have you replied to all the threads asking for help? All of them? If there is 1 thread you have skipped because "other people already answered it" then you have no place to complain. Some people are on here hourly posting to threads, and others are here weekly/monthly. This is not their job.....

Selling frags. I wouldnt have most of the coral I do, if it wasnt for other reefers. The topic of frequent sale postings can be discussed intelligently with the mods or in a thread if you have a problem, but trust me, the mods have it under control. As problems develop they get dealt with, and obviously the mods dont think its a problem....or they have spoken with the people you called out and have maybe discussed it with them already by pm.....without including you?

Large tanks. when i had a 10g tank, it would make about 10 frags a year worth of growth, and if i was the badass reefer i am today, i probably could have increased that to 20. Many of the people you listed have HUGE systems. 200-500g. they are not trying to make money, of flood the market. To them, "occasionally" posting some frags to buy salt or make room = selling 50 frags every couple months. They are taking a loss, or atleast are not getting rich. water changes to them cost $50 a month alone

On the flip side... I personally like that some members offer corals for sale that we couldn't find or afford otherwise. Not to mention the help and fair deals you get from them...
That add sounds like an angry pet shop owner to me :)

I personally appreciated finding Frank180reef less than 5 minutes from my home through one of his postings about coral frags, even though I have only visited once. I never would have known a fellow reefer deep into the hobby was so close. Also saves me $20 in gas compared to a trip to any good LFS in Salem, Woburn, or other locations which I enjoy visiting also just for the vast selections. Frank was eager to answer my questions and incessant pointing to things 'What that? and that?'. I look forward to maybe stopping by again some day, w/ wife and kids and can spend that $20 in gas on a frag instead.

I can only talk to two people PVH and Frank180reef.

I have seen their display tanks. Both are passionate about their reef tanks.

I also believe they enjoy propagating corals.

Both gave me MORE than fair deals on corals.

Not only was the quantity of the coral I got better than I can get any where else, the health of their tanks was far better than I have ever seen in stores.

I still get cranky when I look at the state of store tanks compared to these two guys frag tanks.

If you develop a relationship with either of these guys I am sure they will help you out even more.

Nick if you read this let me know if you are selling frags any time soon. The EXCELLENT prices you were offering to members and the quality of your selection was amazing.

PVH, FRANK180. Thanks for continuing to provide members with a better alternative to the LFS (no offense intended but it is true).

This Craigslist post is so sad it's not even worth commenting on. Some people are just plain stupid and cowardly. I have purchased from frank180reef, dz6t and nicks387 on several occasions, and I always appreciate the quality of corals I receive. My tanks would be empty without their fragging abilities. This guy is a failure looking for easy answers to reefing. Chances are good, he won't be in the hobby long.

^+1,Ditto and well said

Wow. Honestly, I wouldn't have a reef tank if it weren't for Dong. I got so many corals at great prices from him and wouldn't have been able to afford the corals I got had I bought them from the lfs. I have also bought from pvh and frank and both were great people.

This disgruntled person claims that the mentioned names aren't doing anything for the hobby or brs and just want to make a buck... Really? Let's use some common sense here, buddy. Do they think Dong is turning a profit selling his corals for $5-$10 a frag? Nope. He's probably still losing money considering the cost to maintain his systems (which he is always happy to talk about as long as you'd like). Same probably goes for the others.

It's people like the ones listed in that ad that make the hobby more enjoyable and affordable for the rest of us. So I would like to take this opportunity, albeit an unfortunate circumstance, to thank you all for providing the brs with great corals at great prices.

Thank you.
