Is a Picasso Clownfish Compatible With Other Clowns?

As some of you may know one of my Picasso clowns when carpet surfing about three weeks ago. Since then I have built a clear mesh top for the tank. The other clown is doing great, but I want to get him a buddy. Will a Picasso clown only "get along" with another Picasso clown or can I introduce a Ocellaris clown? If I ask my LFS I have a feeling they will tell me it has to be another Picasso becuase of the price point. Just looking for an honest answer. Thanks.

Yes you can get a reg ocellaris as long as its smaller

I got 4 clowns in my tank. Two true and 2 black and white ones and they all get along

Reviving this thread, since I want to get another clownfish. Still have the one Picasso. Can I get an ocellaris clown, or will they not get along with a True Perc? If the latter, is there another clown other than a Picasso I can get? Tomato, Skunk, Maroon... I actually think I might stay away from the Maroon since I've been told they can be bullies.

If they are the same sp they will likely pair up as long as the new one is small. If you mix clown sp you will probably end up with one or both dead. If you mix a maroon with other clown the outcome is not likely to be good...

so assuming it is correct that the one you have is a perc.perc I would suggest finding another perc.perc that's as small as possible.

I wouldn't go by a pic, especially with a man made color mroph. There are some specific criteria for differentiating ocellaris vs perc.perc but I don't know the specifics off the top of my head. IIRC one thing is to count the spines in one of the fins, but again I don't recall the specifics. Try some googling, otherwise I'll try to do a little research after dinner.....

Sounds like the two will intermix OK, though I'd still want to keep to one sp or the other.

Thanks John. I did hours of google searches and came up with similar results. It looks like there are varying opinions on this subject. I will likely try a perc and cross my fingers. Thanks again for all your help.
