Is any 250 W ballast usuable for 250 HQI?

there are a few used ballasts(250s+400s) that i can get for cheap. id like to retrofit them to grow out some corals without spending a fortune.

They do appear to be pretty old. def used for moguls rather than hqi. So how exactly does it work? will 250 hqi's fire as long as they are getting 250 watts? does amperage come into play at all etc? or is wattage the only factor that is to be considered? thanks

There are many different ballasts. Look for a number on it it will be like M58,
M80 or something like that
