It has started

Okay, developments this weekend.
RO/DI unit plumbed and now ready to go.

Sistered the joists under my tank, and added two floor jacks.

Set up a two foot high platform to sit under my sump- thereby cutting my pumps head pressure by two feet. The horse trough is now in place.

Still have to rebuild the stand under the 125, get lights, and get a pump. :sigh:

Hey while you have the wall open did you think to rough a return and drain line for the future bedroom tank? ;)
Sick mind. :D

Okay.
I'm going to order the Oceans Motion 4 way today.
A big step forward.
Two pumps needed now.
Probably a Dolphin for the return from the basement.
What to use on the closed loop/Oceans Motion?
Maybe a T4, but heard they might add heat to the system?

I love the quietness of my T4's. Not so in love with the heat they add to the system.

Why not connect the OM to the Dolphin return?

How much heat soes it add though? Most of what I have read says a degree or two maybe three.

it's hard to tell. it may be two degrees, which doesn't seem a lot but if you add this to the heat from other sources, in the summer it becomes an issue (for me).

Hmm, I've heard Dolphins might add a few degrees.
Can any one verify or debunk this claim?

what i meant is - instead of using an extra pump for the closed loop, why not just connect the OM to the return pump?

I gotcha.
I want two pumps on two different circuits.

Hey I like that 70w / 1100 gallons.
Looks like a good loop pump,
The curve drops off pretty quick though so as a return pump it may be limited. I guess it just depends how much flow your looking for, and in what direction. I'm running a gen-x PCX40 (also 1100 @0') on my loop it feeds 2X3/4" outlets at a time, and I'm not too thrilled with the flow good motion for about 2' of tank at best.

Moe I've been thinking more about what we talked about on the phone, and I think the 2X 3/4" and 2X1" driven by a large pump has so much potential. You could rock between a concentrated blast that carries the length of the tank and a large volume gentle flow.

Moe, if you're considering the Blueline 1110gph pump for a closed-loop, I will be selling a almost-new one in the near future (within a week or two)... that's the pump I have on my closed-loop (branded by PanWorld, sold by Premium Aquatics, but it's exactly the same pump as the Blueline)... FYI, the reason for selling is that the fan is a bit too loud for my wife's tastes (tank/sump is in living room)... let me know if you're interested, or if you want to drop by to see/hear it first.

Nuno, I'm interested!
Send me an email, and we can coordinate: moe.kirby[at]comcast.net
Thanks for the tips, people.

Now I have to decide on a return pump to be located in the basement.
Gen X? Dolphin? Other?

If it is going to be in the basement I vote for the Gen X. I like how my mak 4 performs but I don't like the fan noise. In your case I would avoid any water cooled pumps. Why add extra heat if you don't need to. Glad to see your project is moving along. :D

I don't know........The blueline I heard from champion was the quitest pump I've heard (or haven't) yet!!! If your wife is complaining about pump noise it can't be the same as the blueline. That one is almost silent. My wife complains about my gen-x in the cabinet. I'm going to give that one the boot very soon!!!!!!

Check out this page at Premium Aquatics, they mention that the pumps are sold under the two brands:

http://www.premiumaquatics.com/Merc...Product_Code=PW-50PX-X&Category_Code=Panworld

I also checked championlighting.com, and the specs, price and picture are exactly the same as the PanWorld.

FWIW, the noise comes from the fan, not the pump... if I cover the fan intake with my hand, it's much quieter... it's kind of a "humming" noise, not too bad IMO but my wife can't stand it...

Nuno, That pump looks just like the HD line of blueline pumps. Those have loud fans. Not as loud as a gen-x but more like the noise of an iwaki. The blueline NS series is the pump I recomended for Moe. At the bottom of the blueline page on the link above. This NS series pump is almost silent & is not yellow. Look at the wattage of your pump on your link. (if you can) It should be using around 90 watts if it pumps 1110 gph. The Ns series uses 70 watts & is 1105 gph @ 0 ft head. This bad boy is quiet!!!

You're right, I was comparing to the HD line, my pump is the equivalent of the Blueline 30HD-X on that page.

Moe, I apologize for any confusion, I wasn't aware of these other pumps... I did mention the noise right from the beginning, wasn't trying to hide it or anything... I totally understand if you're not interested in the one I have, just let me know.

Nuno, I still want the pump! :)

A little progress this past weekend, but first a little back story.
My basement walls are comprised of piled field stones for the front half of the house. When originally built, there was no cement between the stones. Sometime since then somebody slapped some mortar between the stones to seal the basement. Many years later, the old mortar has begun to crumble in places. In addition, water seepage has made some spots look nasty.
I visited reefnrolls' house and saw that she re-did the mortar between the stones in her basement, then painted over them using a good epoxy paint.
It was decided that we should do the same.
So this past weekend Leisu & I chipped out the old mortar from 1.5 walls, cleaned the stones, then mixed new mortar and applied the new cement. It's quite a job. I'll post pictures tonight. Once this repointing (ScavDog told me the proper term :D ) and painting is done, then the system can be plumbed and put in operation.
Phew.
