Yeah, we thought about the side. There's not enough room on the right side when viewed from the front. Only about an inch clearance.

what if you used the stubby bulkheads? Marc Fishy Business Has them in stock i think you gain and inch or so

just measured the bulheads 1" stub is 1" shorter than a normal bulkhead and the 1 1/2" is an 1 1/2" smaller
they are very low profile

Here's Neo trying to figure it all out. He's on the stairs down to the basement. It's not very wide. Note the black circle we drew on the tank where we were going to drill. An elbow there would jut out into the hallway and always get bumped.

Moe you have internal overflows so supply and return are no problem. Just use MaxiJets with a CHAUVET SF-4005 2/4 Channel Timer for 30 bucks (http://store.yahoo.com/djtronix/chsf24chti.html) and some day upgrade to Tunze
