Keith (iffers tank slave)

Brian, what an awesome set-up! Color me impressed! Beautifully done. Even more good ideas. Thank you very much.

Very Cool Brian. Now you have our brains going!!!

By the way, do you still use the Octopus? I have a 3000 that came used with my tank that I am considering setting up. I will need to get software for my computer to run that part(I need windows xp). I am looking for suggestions on where to set up probes and any advice that people can give me on mistakes not to make. My set up has my sump, chiller, heaters, and ballasts in the basement. Any input on this...

I run the octopus 3000 (see it in the corner of the tank shot) I use it for my lighting, monitoring, & also for chiller & heater. (chiller in basement) You don't need the software for X-10 or any of the probe monitoring. PC interface is for graphs & pager support.

Brian, standard or lab grade probes? (Which do you recommend), and a good place to purchase said probes. BTW, you do excellent work. Also, do you place the probes in the overflows, or directly in the tank?

Lab grade all the way (well Temp & orp) You really don't need the conductivity unless your willing to install a cell to mount it in. (that is the only way you can get an accurate reading of conductivity) water has to pass by the probe constantly to get a good reading. (conductivity) As far as the other probes. ... If you have a basement sump I would suggest making a rack to hold them in. (out of acrylic & drill out the holes to drop them into.) Make sure it is in a good water flow area as well.

Thanks for the compliment....I'm anal & I have OCD...put the two of them together & Watch out!!!

& with this pic I will say......I'm still not where I want to be.....

Thanks...I may pick your brain more later, if you don't mind.

anytime, Keith/Jen

That last pic is awsome. Do you still have the Soly that you got at the meeting in March/April of last year?
And... can I get really long cords for my probes? It is about 15ft from where the Octopus would sit on the wall into my sump through the floor. Possible?

It was a Wild Solomon Island tort. It was bleached in the bag but I wanted that puppy!!!! It didn't make it...Never opened it's polyps & started to to stn less than a week after I got it. I think all the handling it got at the auction & the temp inside the bag sealed it's doom. Tank temp in the bag when I got home was 70. Oh well....I donated big to the BRS!!! As far as extended probe cables. I've never heard of them & I don't think they exist that long but I could be wrong. You could always make a small bracket to hang them in your overflow box.

I love that big ol' cap at the top/middle of the tank, Aquaman.
At least, I think it's a cap.

Everyone that comes by wants a peice of that a selagro. Quite a waiting list. I fragged a chunk about 6 months ago & I'm waiting for it to grow out so I can clip frags from that colony. BTW....I'm in Acushnet. Where in NB are you north, center, west, south end?
I'm not sure if it would shift under 175's but I have alot of stuff that will say pretty under 175's.

and what a waiting list it is....:p
