Killing AIPTASIA

Im breaking down my 120g and would like to use a couple pieces of rock for my new tank, but I have found a couple a small AIPTASIA on it. My question is , if I put the rock outside for a couple a days in the cold weather will that kill it?? I know it will kill the "Live" on the rock but that's ok w/ me as long as the AIPTASIA is gone. Any input would be great. Thanks Peter

As far as I know the Aiptasia will die as it is a saltwater organism and the temps around here should kill anything on that rock. I would think about putting a few peppermints into the new tank when you set it up, just in case you do get Aiptasia. I got two in mine and my Aiptasia went away real fast.

Be careful about putting your rock outside in this weather. I put a few pieces out and when they froze, the expanding ice broke them into small pieces. I would just put it in a 5 gallon bucket and let it dry out.

boil it.. and scrub it with a fairly stiff brush.. then rinse off and let it dry

I put in some peppermint shrimp and my aiptasia problem disappeared VERY quickly.

Copperband Butterflies are known to eat them too.

copperband work great to get rid of aiptasia. The only issue I had was once they were gone, the fish only eat live food. I also found it picking at the rock, could have been eating copepods not to sure.

Thanks for all the advice. It was just a couple of sm. pieces that had some. I left them outside last night and again tonight , will scrub and throw in a barrell tommorow. Ill make sure to throw some peppermint shrimp in the new tank.

I got mine to eat mysis from the water column but your right they are finicky eaters but they look amazing.
