Koran Angel or Other Angels

I have never kept an Angel fish in any of my reefs. I really love the look of a nice Koran.

I was thinking of possibly scratching a hippo tang from the stocking list and would like to look into a Koran.

I will be doing research but wanted to see what peoples experience with them as far as being "reef safe."

I keep a lot of LPS and will continue to add acans and corals that I have heard some angels will rip apart.

I bought my Koran as a juvenile, it's been about 3yrs now with no issues. He eats just about anything. Naturally stays away from BTA but reeked havoc on my green paly and occasional nip at snails. Friendly with other tank mates.

I wanted to pick one up too. My LFS has a couple the size of my thumbnail and they are awesome looking. I did research and it looks like they are hit or miss with being reef safe. Too much of a risk for me! I still want one though! Maybe Hunter will offer some advice to sway me.

bottom line is you are rolling the dice with an angel whey you have lps or zoas. Most of the success with angels are with sps dominated tanks. I've only been able to successfully keep a majestic angel...even then it would visit the zoas once in a blue moon.

i have one, to tell the truth i now have 4 angels in my tank, knock on wood they are all good fish, i find if you keep them happy, they play nice with the coral...

Thanks for the advice all. Not really sure if I am willing to take a risk with my LPS. Maybe I will wait and hopefully one will eventually be for sale that somebody had that didn't pick corals.

All Angels except the genus Genicanthus are a risk in a reef with Corals. As said above mostly with Zoas and LPS. but even the "reef safe" ones are not totally safe. I had a female Bellus nip at an Elegance Coral before. Personally I would not risk any of my LPS with any Angel. But I love my Acans too much. ;D
Although I have a Bellus in my 125g. but there are no Acans in there...so far from what I have observed she is a model citizen... only time will tell. But I have only had her in there for a week.
