Linckia starfish

Does anybody here have a linckia starfish? i have read that they are picky eaters and nobody is quite sure about their actual diet. some people say they are scavengers, and others say that they eat sponges. i saw an interesting article on another reef keeping forum that somebody caught their linckia eating asterina starfish. anybody have any thoughts on this?

I have tried to keep them and without success. Linkia and Fromia Starfish Are very difficult and should be left to the most experienced reefer. Maybe because they are not sand sufters but live almost exclusively on rock or glass. Brittle starfish and maybe some of the sand sifters are hardier. I did keep Red Fromia starfish for about 6 months once but usually they last one month..my experience that is.

IIRC at least the conventional wisdom is that they mostly feed on bacterial slime which there is typically only enough of in large, mature tanks. I've never had any long term success (more than a year or two) with orange or blue linkas. As Jeremy at CRA would say; "they're croakers"

I agree. My luck has been 6 months to a year at best.

I agree completely. I'm going on about a year with my blue linkia, but to be honest I have no clue what he eats. He hides out 90% of the time and I'm lucky if I see one of his legs from under a rock. He comes out at night after the lights come out. If your ph or temp fluctuates much, they will be short lived. I find they also like the salinity at least 1.025. ....and make sure you have plenty of MATURE live rock for him.
