Linkia Starfish splitting?

I picked up a linkia almost a year ago from a LFS, and has been doing well, then about 2 weeks ago two of the legs just seemed to fall off. I thought it was dying as once I received one doa from an order and it was sad to see it fall a part... However it's legs now seem to have healed up and appear to be growing, as well as the dropped legs appear to have survived and occasionally will see one hiding in the rocks. This normal or somehow got stressed? I noticed that the day before it arching it's legs quite strangely backwards off the sand.

Cool, that makes me feel better :) Pretty unnerving to watch it happen, :p I guess I'll have something to trade in a couple mos if they make it!

Do sand sifting stars also reproduce this way?
Don't flame me as it came in an online cleanup crew and my dauther loves the thing.
Anyway it's been in the tank about 10 months and has grown to abour 5".
It's missing about 1/3 of one of it's legs.
I don't have anything in the tank that could have bitten it off.

I think they might reproduce that way, im not 100% sure but I can check for you and get back to you on that

Duds,

It *may* be the green variety after doing some reading up on Wetwebmedia. It's about 2.5" in size, 6 legs, and a beige/orange color with blue tips on it's legs.

wow that sounds really nice, keep me in mind if they survive
