I am in the process of building an in-the-wall system. The tank is a glass 50 gallon tank (36"x18"x17"). I have just down graded from a much larger system and I am going to use as much existing equipment as I can. The first thing I am going to use is my existing PC lighting. I have two 36" fixtures with 4 CF bulbs in each fixture (3 97 watt PC and 1 actinic).
Question 1: If I double up on the PC's is it overkill? The water depth will likely be only 16" and I keep mushrooms and other softies. I am thinking I can get away with only one fixture.
Question 2: The tank is going to sit on a solid base of wood. (very strong) Should I sand out any high spots or can I use a styrofoam base? Where would I buy the foam to sit the tank on top of? Like I said the tank is only 50 gallons and total water volume will probably only be 35 gallons once the live rock is in.
